RE: DAKOTA MEADOWS
DEAR JAMES:
WE HAVE PROVIDED ANALYSIS FOR THE KEYSTONE WALLS YOU WISH TO BUILD.
YOUR WALLS MAY GO UP TO 5 FEET WITHOUT REINFORCING, IF THE KEYSTONE
STANDARD UNITS ARE USED. PER YOUR REQUEST, WE HAVE ALSO LOOKED AT
USING REINFORCING FOR HIGHER WALLS UP TO 6 FEET, USING A KEYSTONE
COMPACT UNIT IN CONJUNCTION WITH FORTRAC 35 -20/20 REINFORCING
MATERIAL. A 6' WALL IN THIS CASE WILL REQUIRE ONE LAYER OF
REINFORCING, 4' LONG, PLACED PER THE MANUFACTURER'S
RECOMMENDATIONS ON TOP OF THE FOURTH BLOCK.
FOR THESE DESIGNS, WE HAVE ASSUMED A LEVEL BACKFILL CONSISTING OF
CLEAN 1 1/4" MINUS WITH NO FINES AND A NATIVE SOIL WITH AN ANGLE OF
INTERNAL FRICTION OF 26 DEGREES. STANDARD DRAIN PIPE NEEDS TO BE
INSTALLED FOR DRAINAGE, AND SUITABLE BASE EXCAVATION NEEDS TO BE
CONFIRMED BY THE SOIL ENGINEER. 1u,4.g /246:.4.26-10 1 iLL -4-i- t
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL US AT 503 -598 -1866.
SINCERELY,

FINAL REPORT OF EARTHWORK OBSERVATION AND TESTING
DAKOTA MEADOWS SUBDIVISION
TIGARD, OREGON
Carlson Testing Inc. (CTI), has conducted on -call inspection services for the earthwork at the
above residential development located off SW North Dakota & SW 105th PI in Tigard, Oregon.
This final letter briefly summarizes our observations and testing during construction, and the
as -built soil conditions to the best of our knowledge. Foundation design input has already
been addressed in previous reports provided by CTI. In addition, CTI has reviewed and
stamped the approved plans to verify that the previous recommendations were incorporated
into the design of the foundations.
SITE PREPARATION AND FILL PLACEMENT
Based on our visual observations and our density test results, after stripping vegetation and
topsoil, engineered fill using on -site soil was moisture- conditioned and placed on the following
areas to a maximum depth of approximately 3 feet.
LOTS: 5 - 17 and 23 - 25
Based on the in -place soil density results and our visual observations, it is our opinion that the
engineered fill on the above lots was generally placed in conformance with the City of Tigard
standards. On the attached test summary, lot tests LF -1 through LF -20 were density tests
taken during both a morning and afternoon visit by CTI on 1 -9 -98. These test were slightly
lower than the minimum compaction requirement. CTI conducted a follow up visit on 2 -3 -98
and retested the failing areas. All retests exceed the minimum compaction requirement. The
retests are listed as structural fill tests SF -1 through SF -6. The engineered fill is considered
suitable for support of spread footings. The remaining lots within the subdivision were either
cut lots or lots left near original grade.

CLOSING AND LIMITATIONS
Our reports pertain to the materials tested /inspected only. This letter should not be construed
to relieve or lessen the responsibility of the contractor or owner's site representative for this
site work, but is provided for the minimum required governmental assurance. Our support was
given on an as- needed basis as requested. If conditions are encountered during foundation
excavation which differ from this report, then the developer (Beacon Homes), the contractor
(GVS), and CTI should be allowed to review the condition before corrective actions are taken.
Corrective work performed by the builder without notifying the above parties will be
interpreted as an acceptance of the conditions encountered.

APPENDIX A
IN -PLACE DENSITY TESTING
A minimum of 90 percent of the maximum dry density obtained from the Modified Proctor
(AASHTO T -180) was required for engineered fill placed in the lots of this development. The
field density testing was performed in general conformance with ASTM D2922 and D3017,
utilizing a nuclear density gauge.
A complete density test result summary is attached. Prefix designations on the test nos.
indicate the type of fill being tested as follows:
NC- No Code (general fill areas and backfill}
LF- residential Lot engineered Fill
RF- Roadway engineered Fill
PS- Pavement Subgrade
BC- Base Course
RW- Retaining all backfill
WT- Water line Trench
ST- sanitary Sewer Trench
DT- Storm Drain Trench
Any suffix designation's (A, B, C, etc.) indicate results of retests which immediately follow
the original failed test.
