Re: Perlo and Northwest Pneumatics - HVAC Review
7190 SW Sandburg Street, Tigard, Oregon
Dear Scott:
At your request, we have completed a structural evaluation for the proposed
modifications to the rooftop units over the warehouse portion of the referenced building.
This evaluation was based upon the original construction documents as prepared by
Norman & Stanich Architects dated January 15, 1971. The as -built mechanical
drawings prepared by Temp Control dated July 2, 1987, HVAC plans as prepared Arrow
Mechanical Contractors dated June 7, 2005. and our subsequent discussions.
As we understand it, the modifications to the proposed facility will entail removing two of
the existing units which originally served the warehouse area and the addition of three
rooftop units to serve the proposed buildout and the Northwest Pneumatic tenant space.
The existing curbs at the removed units will be modified and utilized for two of the
rooftop units and the third will require a separate curb. The drawings prepared by Arrow
Mechanical present the proposed modifications.
The roof structure over the existing facility consists of four inches of vermiculite concrete
roof insulation over a 28 -gauge steel form deck supported by open -web steel joists.
These steel joists are spaced at four feet on center and are supported at the east and
west perimeter concrete walls and an offset open web steel girder line. The joist span
at the subject warehouse area is approximately 52 feet. The weight of the new units as
identified on the Arrow Mechanical drawings is 483 pounds for the GP3 unit and 589
pounds for the GP4 and GP5 units. Although the exact weight of the existing Trane
units which are being replaced was not readily available, it is estimated that these units
weigh approximately 25% more than the proposed units.
Based upon the information provided, it is easy to draw the conclusion that the existing
roof framing will adequately support the proposed rooftop units. I also reviewed the
anchorage and attachment of these units with you yesterday. I have attached a
structural sketch for the attachment of these units to the roof deck. •
