At your request, Geo echnieal Resources, Inc. (Gill) has reviewed the potential for seismically induced
liquefaction of the soils beneath the above- refuenced site. The purpose ofthis review is to meet the intent
of the Qty ',Meath Building Department's Building plan mew process.
Based on a review of the available geologic informed= we anticipate the site is mantled with soil of the
Willamette Silt FoImalion, which is underlain at retaalvelY shallow depth by Columbia Rivet Basalt. We
anticipate the groundwater level at this site will be found at depths that range from 10 to 15 R We also
anticipate the grotmdwate r will approach the ground surface dining periods of extended precipitation
The Oregon Depamnent of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGA 1) produced a' 'Relative Earthquake
Hazard Map of the Portland Metro Region, Clac Multnomah, and Washington Cotm1iK 1997." A
review of this map iodates that the risk of fiqueafact ion is con iduod high, with a total of 20 ft (6 m) most
susoeptrble to liququte tctioa Assuming a conservative value of liquthetion- induced volumetric strait of
3 %, the . resultbg liquefaction-induced total settlement would be on the order of 0.6 ft. In as opinion,
differential seeded could approach half the total aetderneet. We anticipate that the majority of the
sealeerneats will occur after the ad of strong shaking, allowing ample time for compares to ettit the
structure. We recommend that you review the findings with your structural engineer.
This review is based entirely on work performed by others on nearby sites. It was the intent of this review
to provide a sense of magnitude of the probable liquefaction - induced se edemtent. Sign& cant moons
are inherent in a study of this type and additional investipbors mu be conducted if a better
. understanding of the associated risk is den;aed-

I have heard from the contractor that the inspector has commented on the accessible shower at the
above - mentioned building.
Although the drawings called out an accessible shower, the contractor installed a regular shower.
SMce the building is a private entity and is both less than 4,000 sq ft, all on one story and is less
tk an 20 feet high inside, the building is exempt under ORS 447.210(1), SECTION 1102 of 1998
CSSC.
•
The shower is for the private use of the employees only and is adaptable per ADAAG figure 35 (a)if
neccessary in the future.

Item #3: Simpson HID 5A hold downs are actually quite a bit stronger than the HPHD22
specified, and are therefore acceptable. I have instructed the contractor to locate hold
