Dear Mr. Gobel:
This is a Fire and Life Safety Plan Review and is based
on the 1991 editions of the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) and
those sections of the Uniform Building Code (UBC) and
Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) specifically referencing
the fire department, and other local ordinances and
regulations.
Plans received for the above captioned project are
conditionally approved subject to the following items:
1. After completion of this project, call this office
for an inspection and trip test while the installer
is still on the site. Please provide 24 hour
notification prior to the anticipated inspection
time.
2. Nozzle spacing shall be in accordance with the
Equipment Installation Manual and National Fire
Protection Association Standards plus adequate duct
protection shall be provided.
3. The hood, which is indicated to be 6 feet 6 inches
long, must provide adequate overhang (6 ") over the
appliances with cooking surfaces. .

4. There appears to be a space between two cooking
surfaces for a third unknown surface. Provide
needed coverage if it is a cooking surface.
5. Have the installation manual on premises along with
approved plans.
Please note enclosure of February 26, 1993 letter. The
previous plans submitted showed an inadequate design of
the hood system. By your submittal of not "drawn to
scale construction plans ", you are proceeding at your own
risk, and may fail upon inspection. I believe it would
benefit you to submit "drawn to scale plans" as the real
installation will be.
Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of
omissions or oversights by this office or of non-
compliance with any applicable regulations of local
government.
If I can be of any further assistance to you, please feel
free to contact me at 526-2469.
Sincerely,

Gentlemen:
This is a Fire and Life Safety Plan Review and is based
on the 1988 editions of the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) and
those sections of the Uniform Building Code (UBC) and
Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) specifically referencing
the fire department, and other local ordinances and
regulations
Plans are conditionally approved subject to Tigard
Building Department requirements and the following items:
1. The tenant space number must be prominently
displayed on the street front where it is readily
visible to drivers and officers of responding fire
apparatus and other emergency vehicles. UFC Sec.
10.208
2. Not less than one (1) approved fire extinguisher(s)
with a rating of not less than ( *) shall be provided
for each ( * *) square foot of floor area or fraction
thereof. The travel distance to an extinguisher
from any portion of the4uilding, shall not exceed
75 feet. UFC Sec. 10.303
( *) 2A10B:C - Light and Ordinary Hazard
4A10B:C - Extra Hazard
( * *) 3,000 - Light Hazard
1,500 - Ordinary Hazard
1,000 - Extra Hazard,

Note: Where flammable or combustible liquids are
used, "B" ratings of extinguishers may need to be
higher and travel distances shorter. See
requirements in National Fire Protection Association
Standard 10 -1.
3. Additionally, a fire extinguisher with a minimum
rating of 40BC must be provided in the kitchen for
protection of cooking surface fires.
4. It appears that hood #31 does not provide adequate
coverage for cooking surfaces (i.e. pressure fryer
#28). All hoods must provide at least 6 inch
clearance around cooking surfaces that produce
grease laden vapors.
5. Plans show no provisions for automatic fire
protection system for the hood system protecting
cooking surfaces that produce grease laden vapors.
' Please provide 3 sets of plans showing the automatic
fire protection system for the hoods indicating
automatic gas and power shut -offs are in place on
all heat producing equipment.
6. If this building is protected by an automatic fire
protection or required fire or smoke detection
system, not addressed on these plans, contact this
office before proceeding. Demolition, new
construction, or changes in HVAC could alter or
eliminate protection from these life safety systems.
Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of
omissions or oversights by this office or of non-
compliance with any applicable regulations of local
government.
If I can be of any further assistance to you, please feel
free to cor-tact me at 562 -2469.
