Pacific Hwy. 5990B- 004 -000 Dear Mr. Gobel: This is a Fire and Life Safety Plan Review and is based on the 1991 editions of the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) and those sections of the Uniform Building Code (UBC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) specifically referencing the fire department, and other local ordinances and regulations. Plans received for the above captioned project are conditionally approved subject to the following items: 1. After completion of this project, call this office for an inspection and trip test while the installer is still on the site. Please provide 24 hour notification prior to the anticipated inspection time. 2. Nozzle spacing shall be in accordance with the Equipment Installation Manual and National Fire Protection Association Standards plus adequate duct protection shall be provided. 3. The hood, which is indicated to be 6 feet 6 inches long, must provide adequate overhang (6 ") over the appliances with cooking surfaces. . "Working" Smoke Detectors Save Lives Bob Gobel March 18, 1993 Page 2 4. There appears to be a space between two cooking surfaces for a third unknown surface. Provide needed coverage if it is a cooking surface. 5. Have the installation manual on premises along with approved plans. Please note enclosure of February 26, 1993 letter. The previous plans submitted showed an inadequate design of the hood system. By your submittal of not "drawn to scale construction plans ", you are proceeding at your own risk, and may fail upon inspection. I believe it would benefit you to submit "drawn to scale plans" as the real installation will be. Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of omissions or oversights by this office or of non- compliance with any applicable regulations of local government. If I can be of any further assistance to you, please feel free to contact me at 526-2469. Sincerely, \ q‘-e-5. 2 P- 4 /.0( Bradley N. See requirements in National Fire Protection Association Standard 10 -1. 3. Additionally, a fire extinguisher with a minimum rating of 40BC must be provided in the kitchen for protection of cooking surface fires. 4. It appears that hood #31 does not provide adequate coverage for cooking surfaces (i.e. pressure fryer #28). Plans show no provisions for automatic fire protection system for the hood system protecting cooking surfaces that produce grease laden vapors. If this building is protected by an automatic fire protection or required fire or smoke detection system, not addressed on these plans, contact this office before proceeding. Demolition, new construction, or changes in HVAC could alter or eliminate protection from these life safety systems.
