RE: FOUNDATION EXCAVATION REVIEW
DAKOTA GLEN LOT 1
TIGARD, OREGON
GeoPacific Engineering, Inc. engineering geologist, Paul A. Crenna, visited the project site on March
27, 2007 to observe the foundation excavation on Lot 1. At the time of our visit, the excavation was
completed to approximate depths of 1 to 2 feet below pre - existing grade. The subgrade consists of
stiff to very stiff clayey silt soil. An abandoned, shallow septic tank pipe is exposed in the bottom of
the excavation. The project grading contractor (NEI) reports that an excavation to remove an old
septic tank in the center of the lot was dug to an approximate depth of 3 feet, backfilled with crushed
aggregate and compacted with a hoepac. On March 27, 2007, GeoPacific soil technician, Jason
Burgess, visited the site and performed compaction testing of the aggregate backfill (attached).
The observed subgrade is adequate for spread foundation support to a maximum- allowable bearing
pressure of 1,500 psf. Surficial water - softened soils should be removed (mucked out) from beneath
footing forms immediately prior to pouring concrete. In areas where, foundation footings extend over
the abandoned septic pipe, we recommend that the pipe and trench backfill be removed. No deck
footing, patio, or other appurtenant structure subgrades were observed.
Our work scope pertains to a geotechnical engineer's foundation excavation review only and the
conditions existing and exposed at the time of our site visit. No warranty is herein expressed or
implied. This report was prepared for Venture Properties only and should not be relied upon by third
parties without consulting GeoPacific. If you have any questions, please call.
