Following is the structural response to the City of Tigard's plan review letter dated June 2,
• 2006 for this project (Building Permit: BUP2006- 00211). This response deals specifically with
items 2, 3 and 4. It is our understanding that you would respond to items number 1 and
number 5 separately.
2) Clarify the lumber type and grade for the new 6x6 at the NE corner of the building.
Response: This post to be a 6x6 DF -L #2, minimum. See attached calculations.
3) Provide a calculation for the 5 -1/8" x 24" Glulam beam that spans the new "Aluminum
Storefront Assembly."
Response: See attached calculations. The 5 -1/8" x 24" Glulam is structurally acceptable.
4) Provide calculations to validate the construction drawings for the deep masonry lintel
indicated on sheet 8.
Response: See attached calculations. The deep masonry lintel spanning 6' -O" only supports
its self weight and is structurally acceptable as detailed.

The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty
Code (OSSC) 2004 edition; and the State of Oregon Fire Code (OFC) 2004
edition. The following information is required prior to approval of the plans.
1. Sheet 4 of the plans indicate modifications to the roof system. Provide •
calculations, details and construction, drawings for the roof system that
clearly indicate the support of all applicable loads. The analysis shall include
the capacity and support of existing structure that is being used to support
new framing members. Section 1603.1 OSSC.
2. Clarify the lumber type and grade for the new 6 x 6 at the NE corner of the
building. Section 2304.11.2.6 OSSC.
3. Provide a calculation for the 5 1/8 x 24 glulam that spans the new
"Aluminum Storefront Assembly ". Section 1603.1 OSSC.
4. Provide calculations to validate the construction drawings for the deep
beam, masonry lintel indicated on sheet 8.Section 2104.1.5 OSSC.

a deferred submittal item, it shall be indicated on the plans. Section
106.3.4.2 OSSC

FYI Deferred submittals such as Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler, Truss Joist Shop
Drawings, etc, will be charged a deferred submittal fee based on the valuation of
the portion of the work being deferred. The minimum fee shall be $200.00.
FYI If door #3 that leads into restroom has a closer and a latch a 12 inch
clearance will be required on the strike side of the door. Table 11 -E OSSC.
Please provide an item by item response.

When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy ..
of the enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal
assists the City of Tigard in tracking and processing the documents.

The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC)
2004 edition; and the State of Oregon Fire Code (OFC) 2004 edition. The submitted plans are
approved subject to the following conditions.
• All exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special
knowledge or effort. 1003.3.1.8 OSSC
• The means of egress shall be provided with illumination of not less than 1 foot candle at
the floor level anytime the building is occupied. The means of egress illumination shall
be provided with a second source of power in case of primary power loss. 1003.2.9.2
OSSC
• Deferred submittals such as the Aluminum Storefront will be charged a deferred
submittal fee based on the valuation of the portion of the work being deferred. The
minimum fee shall be $200.00 for each item and will be collected at the time the permit
is issued.
• Special Inspection: Special inspection is required for Concrete footings and
foundations and masonry wall WE-1. The special inspection agency of record shall
furnish inspection reports to the Engineer of Record, AAI Engineering, the General
Contractor and the City of Tigard, Building Division, attention Hap Watkins. All
discrepancies shall be brought to the immediate attention of the general contractor for
correction. The special inspector shall submit a final signed report stating whether the
work requiring special inspection was, to the best of the inspector's knowledge, in
conformance with the approved plans and specifications and the applicable
workmanship provisions of the code. 1701.3 OSSC

American with Disabilities Act (ADA): It shall be the responsibility of the Architect,
Engineer, Designer, Contractor, Owner and Lessee to research the applicability of the ADA
requirements for the structure. The City of Tigard reviews the plans and inspects the structure
only for compliance with Chapter 11 of the OSSC which may not include all of the requirements
of the ADA.
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be
maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors
throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
Certificate of Occupancy: No building or structure shall be used or occupied until the Building
Official has issued a certificate of occupancy 109.1 OSSC
Premises Identification: Approved numbers or addresses shall be provided for all new
buildings in such a position as to be plainly visible and legible from the street or road fronting
the property.
