MEMORANDUM
May 4, 1977
TO: City Administrator
FROM: Chief of Police
SUBJECT: Auxiliary Generating System
Sir:
I wish to propose a change in the original proposal of
purchasing two auxiliary generating systems as planned, to
be located at the police station and .City Hall.
The amended proposal would include the purchase of one
automatic auxiliary system to be installed at the police
station, and one multi-channel desk top base to supplement
our radio communications equipment, in lieu of the second
power system.
This proposal will eliminate the need for a second auxiliary
power system at City Hall. A recent experience with the
Public Works desk top base station when our radio equipment
was out of order worked very well. This proposal would also
allow us to move the desk top base to a field command post
if there was a need, as well as a base station back-up at
the police station when there is a power outage or equipment
breakdown.
This proposal will provide a dual back-up, power and communi-
cations; subsequently, I will recommend its consideration over
the original proposal for your consideration. The first bids
for the automatic auxiliary generating system was $4,978 each,
and the desk top base station will cost approximately $1,350,
which would put this proposal within the budgeted amount of
$6,500.
I will also request authorization to purchase based on written
price quotes, whereas the desk top base is below $2,500 and not
a requirement of the contract review board, and whereas we only
received one bid on the auxiliary power system, which limits
the number of vendors for this equipment, which is also con-
sistent with a condition of the contract review board rules.
See attached auxiliary power specifications to be installed at '
the police station. The desk top base station specifications

are not available; however, the equipment requested will be
consistent with equipment manufactured by RCA, Model
#BBA33-Cll; or Motorola, F156LES66A, which are of similar
design and function.
