A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CI"FY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE APPLICATIONS FOR
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR CONS ERUCTING ASPHAL-T PATHWAYS NEAR MEI-7_GER ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL..
WHEREAS, the South Metzger area has developed without sidewalks; and
WHEREAS, school children living on the west side of Hall Boulevard must walk
to school in the street or' along OIL shoulder of the road; and
WHEREAS, persons wishing to walk to shopping or other commercial activities or
for recreation must also contend with auto traffic on the area's narrow roads;
and
WHEREAS, the Metzger-Progress Community Plan calls for a paved pedestrian
network serving the entire Metzger area, with first priority given to
construction of pathways near Metzger Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, South Metzger Community Capital Improvement Steering Committee, the
Metzger Elementary School Parent/Teacher Association, and the Metzger
Community Planning Organization each support the proposed improvements; and
WHEREAS, the proposed pathways can be easily replaced if and when at full
street improvement with curbs and sidewalks is constructed.
WHEREAS, the City has made application for federal funds to finance
construction of the aforementioned pathways; and
WHEREAS, Washington County will receive an estimated $1.3 million per year for,
the next three years, for which twelve cities and the County will compete for
the funding of various projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE I:T RESOLVED by the Tigard City Council that the City of
Tigard, Oregon, hereby expresses its support for constructing asphalt pathways
in the vicinity of Metzger Elementary School and authorizes submission of an
application for federal assistance.
