RESOLUTION NO. 83— 34
A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CITY COUNCIL AGREEING TO RECOMMEND TO THE BEAVERTON
SCHOOL DISTRICT, NO. 48, THAT THE MCKAY SCHOOL REMAIN OPEN FOR THE UPCOMING
SCHOOL YEAR TO SERVE THE CITY OF TIGARD RESIDENTS WHO RESIDE IN THE SCHOOL
DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, Approximately 275 children of whom 2/3 reside in the City of Tigard
attend the McKay School in the Beaverton School District, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tigard residents make up the majority of the student
population of McKay School, and
WHEREAS, the Beaverton School District is considering closing the McKay School
and;
WHEREAS, should the McKay School close, Tigard students may be bussed to a
school farther away from their neighborhoods, and
WHEREAS, the area from which Tigard's McKay School children reside has the
,. potential to grow substantially over the next 10 years, and
WHEREAS, the closing of the McKay School could deter families with young
children from moving into this section of Tigard due to the school situation.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIGARD THAT:
Section 1: The City of Tigard expresses concern that the Beaverton School
District may close the McKay School thus inconveniencing the
City of Tigard residents who are students at the school.
Section 2: Further growth in the area of the City of Tigard served by the
Beaverton School District will create further need for school
facilities in the Beaverton School District in close proximity
to Tigard residents.
Section 3: The City of Tigard recommends that the Beaverton School District
continue to operate the McKay School.
