A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CITY COUNCIL EXPRESSING; SYMPATHY TO
MRS. McCALL ON THE DEATH OF THOMAS LAWSON MCCALL.
WHEREAS, Thomas Lawson McCall, former Governor of Oregon died
this week; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall initiated and led a courageous and
successful battle to again make the polluted Willamette River a
clean and precious resource of the State; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall risked the anger of industry, developers
and neighboring states by repeatedly and forcefully voicing his
concern for the environment of the State he loved so well; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall was a prime mover behind Oregon's land
use planning system for the protection of the land and a way of life
treasured by Oregonians; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall led Oregon and the nation in the fight
against litter with the Oregon Bottle Bill; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall, always concerned about the people's
access to government, established in his office an ombudsman; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall set a precedent for the nation with
"odd/even" gas rationing during the gas crisis; and
WHEREAS, Governor McCall has continued to serve this State as
a commentator on critical issues; and
WHEREAS, in these and so many other ways and at so many other
times Governor McCall served us so well; and
WHEREAS, as a man and political leader, Thomas Lawson McCall
cura large figure and his insight, his leadership, his wit, his
concern and his voice will be greatly missed;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tigard here
expresses their deepest sympathy to Mrs. McCall and her family.
