A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING BALLOT MEASURE 11 3 - CORRECTIONS
FUNDING.
WHEREAS, it is generally recognized that major crime is on the increase in the
State of Oregon; and f
WHEREAS, current statistics 'ndicate that there is insufficient housing to
properly accommodate Oregon's present and expected incarcerated population; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that overcrowding and inadequate space have generally `
p"oven harmful to the efficient and positive operation of corrections and corrections S
facilities, thereby thwarting the public trust, safety and welfare; and f
WHEREAS, the City of Tigard recognizes the need for additional sentencing
alternatives and facilities consistent with each County's Corrections Master Plan;
and

WHEREAS, the Sixty-First Legislative Assembly, recognizing the detrimental f
effect of inadequate corrections systems on the general welfare of the citizens 1
of Oregon, passed House Joint Resolution 22 and House Bill 2956 and referred House !
Joint Resolution.22(Ballot Measure 11. 3- May, 1982 Primary Election) to a general vote
of the people; now, therefore r

BE IT RESOLVED that it is the desire of the City of Tigard and its' Council f
to support and endorse Ballot Measure # 3(House Joint Resolution 22); and fj
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Tigard City Council does hereby call for and
encourage its members to support and develop widespread public awareness and
endorsement.
