RESOLUTION No. 79-__
A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL {
ASSISTANCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THREE SENIOR CITIZEN CENTERS TO SERVE THE CITIES
OF DURHAM, KING CITY, SHERWOOD, TIGARD AND TUALATIN, AND THE ADJACENT UNINCORPORATED
AREAS. t

WHEREAS, Loaves and Fishes Centers, Inc. is an Oregon non-profit Corporation
incorporated for the purpose of promoting better health and sustaining independent
living through improved nutrition among the elderly by providing low-cost nutritionally-
sound meals and recreation and leisure activities in strategically placed centers; and g
WHEREAS, there are only three Loaves ar.d Dishes Centers in Washington County, which #
are located in the cities of Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Tigard; and

WHEREAS, the Loaves and Fishes Center in Tigard, located at the Calvin Presbyterian '
Church, at 10445 S.W. Canterbury Lane, serves the senior citizens of five cities, namely
Durham, King City, Sherwood, Tigard and Tualatin; and !
WHEREAS, the existing facilities for the Loaves and Fishes Center in Tigard are
too small and inadequate and are located too far away to properly serve many of
the senior citizens residing in the aforementioned five communities; and
WHEREAS, the Steering Committee for the Tigard Loaves and Fishes Center has met
with the Mayors and Administrators of the aforementioned cities and has recommended that
three Senior Citizen Centers be constructed at the following locations to serve the
elderly residing in the following areas:
1. Tigard (to serve King City, Tigard and adjacent unincorporated areas);
2. Sherwood (to serve Sherwood and adjacent unincorporated areas);
3. Tualatin (to serve Durham, Tualatin and adjacent unincorporated areas); and
WHEREAS, the Loaves and Fishes Steering Committee has recommended that the appropriate
cities make application for federal funds to purchase land and to construct the aforementioned
Loaves and Fishes Centers, and that the appropriate cities own the facilities; and
WHEREAS, Washington County will receive an estimated $1.9 million per year, for the next
three years, for which twelve cities and the County will compete for the funding of
various projects.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tigard, Oregon, hereby joins
with the cities of Durham, King City, Sherwood, and Tualatin in supporting the development
of Loaves and Fishes Centers in Sherwood, Tigard and Tualatin according to the following
schedule and estimated project budget:
