RESOLUTION No. 75- 49
A RESOLUTION OF THE TIGARD CITY COUNCIL ENDORSING THE CONCEPT OF A BY-PASS,
ROAD BETWEEN PACIFIC HIGHWAY (99W) AND I-5 SOUTH OF TIGARD AND URGING SUPPORT
OF THAT CONCEPT BY THE SOUTHWEST METRO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, TUALATIN, KING CITY,
DURHAM, SHERWOOD, WASHINGTON COUNTY, CRAG AND THE STATE OF OREGON.
WHEREAS, S. W. Pacific Highway (99W) is a State Highway traversing the
City of Tigard; and
WHEREAS, the Oregon State Highway Division has published traffic volume
tables which clearly indicate that traffic volumes are in excess of 28,000 vehicles
per day and that fully 1/2 of that volume (14,208) is through traffic not origined
or destined in Tigard, King City or Tualatin, and
WHEREAS, Pacific Highway experiences the highest number of accidents of
all roads in the Tigard area; and
WHEREAS, the high traffic volumes through the City of Tigard are a
source of visual and noise pollution as well as being unsafe due to the inadequate
design of Pacific Highway; and
WHEREAS, if an alternative route around Tigard were available, motorists
destined west and south of Tigard would use such a facility to avoid the traffic
ensnarlments through the City of Tigard; and
WHEREAS, the Tigard City Council finds that a by-pass between Pacific
Highway and I-5 south of Tigard would alleviate a portion of the congestion in
Tigard and would be beneficial to 50% of the motorists using Pacific Highway.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by- the City Council of the City of Tigard that:
Section 1: The concept of a by-pass as described above is hereby endorsed;
Section 2: Support of the by-pass concept is requested of the City of Tualatin,
City of Durham, City of King City, City of Sherwood, the Metro-Southwest
Chamber of Commerce, Washington County, Columbia Regional Association of
Governments, and the State Highway Department and to this end copies of
this resolution are to be sent to each of these organizations and
agencies with a written request for support.
