AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING ERECTION OF CERTAIN NEW OUTDOOR ADVERTISING SIGNS.
THE CITY OF TIGARD ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1
The City Council finds that the Surface Transportation Assistance
Act of 1978 contains provisions affecting the City' s ability to regulate
outdoor advertising signs. The 1979 Oregon Legislature is expected to
consider similar legislation. The effects of such existing and proposed
legislation are uncertain.
It is in the interest of the public health, safety, and general
welfare that no new outdoor advertising signs be erected and that no
existing outdoor advertising sign be enlarged, structurally altered, or
re-erected during a one-year period commencing on the effective date of
this ordinance, pending the review of existing and proposed legislation in
this area.
SECTION 2
A. No new outdoor advertising signs shall be erected, nor shall any
outdoor advertising sign be enlarged, structurally altered, or re-erected
in the City of Tigard for a period of one year following the effective date
of this ordinance.
B. Nothing in this ordinance shall apply to political or public signs.
C. For the purposes of this section the definitions provided by
ORS 377.710 as adopted in Section 27, Chapter 810, Oregon laws 1977, shall
apply.
