CITY OF TIGARD, OREGON
ORDINANCE NO. 74-
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 10.36.100 OF THE TIGARD MUNICIPAL
CODE WITH RESPECT TO RIDING BICYCLES UPON SIDEWALt:S WITHIN THE
CI`!'Y OF TIGARD; PRESCRIBING AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
THE CITY OF TIGARD ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS: I

Section 1: That Section 10.36.100 of the Tigard Municipal Code
be and the camp is hereby amended to read as follows: 4
10 6.100 Riding - On sidewalks prohibited. No person t
shall ride or operate any wheeled vehicle, excepting
wheelchairs, on any sidewalk adjacent and parallel to
S. W. Main Street; and provided further, that any person
riding any wheeled vehicle, excepting
wheelchairs, on any sidewalk in the city shall at all
times yield the right-of-way to pedestrians using such
sidewalk.
Section 2: Inasmuch as it is necessary for the peace, health,
and safety of the people of the City of Tigard that
the foregoing amendment become effective with the
least possible delay, an emergency is hereby declared
to exist and this ordinance shall become effective
upon its passage by the Council and approval by the
Mayor.

bicycle; provided, however, that this restriction shall not
apply to tandem bicycles or bicycles equipped for two or more
riders and provided further, that no person shall ride or
operate a bicycle so equipped, with the passenger in front of
the operator of such bicycle. (Ord. 67-72 §8, 1967) .
10.36.090 Riding--Attachment to other vehicle prohibited.
No person ri ing upon any bicycle shall attach the same or
himself to any other vehicle upon a roadway. (Ord. 67-72 §9,
1967) .

in the city; provided, however, that bicycles used for de-
livery of papers or merchandise may be operated on the side-
walks while being so used, within the residential section of
the city, only. The "residential section of the city, " for
the purposes of this section, includes all parts of the city
contiguous to a street or highway not comprising a business_
district when the frontage on such street or highway for a
distance of three hundred feet or more is mainly occupied
by dwellings or by dwellings and buildings used for business,
provided, that when the roadway is impassable for bicycles
then they may be ridden on the sidewalk for such distance as
the roadways are not usable; and provided further, that any
person riding or operating a bicycle on any sidewalk in the
residential section of the city shall at all times yield the
right-of-way to pedestrians using such sidewalk. (Ord. 67-
72 §10, 1967) .
10.36. 110 Riding--Roadway use regulations. Every per-
son operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to
the right-hand side of the roadway as practicable,, exercising
due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding
in the same direction. Persons riding bicycles upon a road-
way shall not ride otherwise than in single file. (Ord. 67-
72 §11, 1967) .
10.36. 120 Racing on public ways--Permit required. No
person shall engage in, or cause others to be engaged J.n,
any bicycle racing upon the streets or other public places
in the city, except under a permit from and under the super-
vision of the city police department. (Ord. 67-72 §12, 1967) .
10.36. 130 Applicability' of traffic laws. Every person s
riding or operating a bicycle on a street or public path in
the city shall be subject to all the provisions of the laws
of thestateof Oregon applicable to such operation and shall-
also be subject to all the provisions of Title 10 , and any
other city ordinances applicable to such operation. (Ord.
