ORDINANCE NO. 07
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TIGARD MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION
1.12.060 REQUIRING CHIEF PETITIONERS FOR A CITY OF TIGARD INITIATIVE,
REFERENDUM OR RECALL PETITION BE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF TIGARD
WHEREAS, a public hearing was conducted on August 14, 2007 on the proposed amendment to the
Tigard Municipal Code requiring Chief Petitioners of a City of Tigard initiative, referendum, or recall
petition be electors of the City of Tigard; and
WHEREAS, the Tigard City Council has determined that it is in the best interests of the citizens of the
City of Tigard to require that Chief Petitioners for measures to be placed before City of Tigard voters
be registered voters within the City of Tigard.
NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY OF TIGARD ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The Initiative and Referendum Chapter 1.12 of the Tigard Municipal Code is hereby
amended to add Section 1.12.060 to read'as follows:
1.12.060 Chief Petitioners for Initiative, Referendum, or Recall Petitions to
be Electors of the City of Tigard.
No petition for initiative, referendum, or recall filed with the city shall be valid
unless all chief petitioners are electors of the city at the time of filing and remain
electors of the city through the entire initiative, referendum, or recall process,
including the election.
SECTION 2: This ordinance shall be effective 30 days after its passage by the Council, signature
by the Mayor, and posting by the City Recorder.
