The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code
(OSSC) 2007 edition; National Fire Protection Association, Standard 13 (NFPA 13)
2002 edition and the State of Oregon Fire Code (OFC) 2007edition.
GENERAL
1. A supply of spare sprinklers (never less than 6) shall be maintained on the
premises so that any sprinklers that have operated or been damaged in any way
can be promptly replaced. These sprinklers shall correspond to the types and
temperature ratings of the sprinklers on the property. Sections 6.2.9.1 & 6.2.9.2
NFPA 13.
2. The spare sprinklers shall be kept in a cabinet located where temperatures will
not exceed 100 degrees "F" at any time. A special sprinkler wrench shall be
provided and kept in the sprinkler cabinet to be used in the removal and
installation of sprinklers. Sections 6.2.9.3 & 6.2.9.6 NFPA 13.
3. The clearance between the deflector and the top of storage shall be 18 inches or
greater. Section 8.6.6.1 NFPA 13. The distance shall be increased to 36 inches
for Large Drop sprinkler heads. Section 8.11.6 NFPA 13
4. Sprinklers shall be located a minimum of 4 inches from walls and spaced not less
than 6 feet on center. Sections 8.6.3.3 & 8.6.3.4.1 NFPA 13.
5. Clearances shall be provided around all piping extending through platforms,
foundations, walls and floors. The diameter of the hole shall be 2 inches larger
than the penetrating pipe for pipe sizes 1 inch through 3'/ inches. The diameter
of the hole shall be 4 inches larger than the penetrating pipe for pipe sizes 4
inches and larger 2 inches is required. Sections 9.3.4.1 & 9.3.4.2 NFPA 13.
6. All valves controlling the water supply for automatic sprinkler systems and all
water flow monitoring devices shall be electrically monitored when the system
serves more than 20 heads. Section 903.4 OFC
7. The system piping shall be braced to resist both lateral and longitudinal
horizontal seismic loads to prevent vertical motion resulting from seismic loads.

The structural components to which bracing is attached shall be determined to be
capable of carrying the added applied seismic loads. Sway braces shall be
designed to withstand forces in tension and compression. Bracing shall be
attached directly to feed and cross mains.
8. The end sprinkler on a line shall be restrained against excessive vertical and
lateral movement.
9. All concealed spaces enclosed wholly or partly by exposed combustible
construction shall be protected by sprinklers.
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp,
shall be maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division
inspectors throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City
of Tigard in tracking and processing the documents.
