This letter is beiiag written in reference to Riverside Homes plan 3017 at Tigard., Oregon
Enclosed is an alternate framing detail that we would consider acceptable to be used in
place of the (3)1.75 "xl 1.875" Microllams specified in the main floor framing above the
garage. The straps from the shearwalis above will be strapped around blocking between
joists, and this blocking will attach to the joists with A35 angles (per enclosed detail).

Chris,
I have developed the loads and connections for the proposed alternate framing detail we would
like to use for an existing framed condition. The original Riverside Homes 3017 design showed
a single 1 -3/4 "x11 -7/6" Microllam at the main floor framing to handle (3) lateral wall point loads,
which in our opinion is over designed. Based on my calculations we should be able to use the
existing joists at 16" o.c., block between them, and attach with hardware per my suggested
detail 25B/87. Please review and comment on our alternate detail.
Note, the house is framed, decked, and has some sheetrock installed, as well as mechanical
ducting, electrical, and plumbing installed.
