Dear Brian:
o
• `" This letter is being written to request an appeal of Uniform Building Code (UBC) Section
- 3 1004.2.4, Separation of exits or exit - access, approved per section 104.2.8 of O.S.S.C., for the
above referenced tenant improvement.

We propose demolition of some existing walls on the fifth floor of the Two Lincoln Building.
The resulting area is approximately 3,786 SF, requiring two exits. The building is six stories,
o Type II -FR, fully sprinklered with an automatic smoke detection system in the corridors.
UBC Section 1004.2.4, Separation of exits or exit- access doorways
As you can see from Attachment A, the existing exit door is separated from the new exit door
3 M by approximately 41' -10 ", which is approximately 9' -8" less than the required separation
distance of approximately 51' -6" (one -half the diagonal distance of approximately 103' -0 ").
O
o
Evaluation of this condition under IBC, Section 1014.2.1, Exception 2, would allow for this
configuration of exits. The required separation would be approximately 34' -4" (one -third the
diagonal distance). The building is fully sprinklered and the exits will be greater than
Group one -third the diagonal distance apart.
Mackenzie,
Incorporated
Architecture Please feel free to call to review or I would be happy to meet at your office to discuss. Thank
Interiors you for taking the time to consider this appeal.
