Building Permit: MEC2009 -00648 Construction Type: 5B

The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code
(OMSC) 2007 edition; and the State of Oregon Fire Code (OFC) 2007 edition. The
following corrections need to be submitted for review prior to issuing of the permit
1) Provide design and calculations for vertical and lateral loads from RTU's on
the roof.
2) Provide cut sheets for all mechanical equipment and curbs.
3) Provide attachment details showing connection of curb to roof and RTU's to
the curb.
When submitting for a permit to install mechanical equipment on a roof (RTU,
Split System Condenser or Air Handler), the following must be provided. A cut
sheet showing weight, tonnage, size and capacities of unit to be installed. If a
new curb is also being installed, a listing for that product shall be submitted.
When trying to decide if engineering will be required for either lateral or
vertical loads the following guidelines shall be used. If the new unit weighs
more than 400 pounds a lateral design and calculations are required from a
registered design professional. Lateral design shall comply with Sec. 1613 of
The Oregon Structural Specialty Code and ASCE 7 -05. If the unit is 400
pounds or less, lateral design will not be required but a drawing showing
adequate attachment to the curb and or roof shall be shown on the plans
specifying number and type of fasteners to be used. Mechanical fasteners
shall be used to anchor any mechanical unit.
Vertical loads shall be designed when a new unit is installed that changes the
size of the footprint of the unit in relation to an existing curb or if a new curb is
installed. No design will be required if the footprint of the unit does not change
and it fits on the existing curb (push /pull) and weighs the same or less than
the original unit. Verification of the weights of the old and new units shall be
submitted along with the permit.
When responding, provide an itemized letter stating in what way each numbered
issue has been addressed in the revision.
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City
