RE: HVAC MODIFICATIONS
Project Information
Building Permit: MEC2004 -00281 Construction Type: II -1 HR
Tenant Name: Tigard High School Occupancy Type: E -1
Address: 9000 SW Durham Road Occupant Load: NA
The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code
(OMSC) 2002 edition; the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC) 1998 edition;
and the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue Ordinance 99 -01 (TVFR99 -01) 1999 edition. The
following information is required prior to approval of the submitted plans.
1. Provide details for the support of the ducts. The design of the structural support,
materials, spacing and connection to structure of the duct supports is required prior to
permit issuance. Detail 3, Sheet M6.2 indicates a seismic support system only (no
indication of spacing or location). The duct supports shall be incorporated into the
plans.
2. Fire AND Smoke Dampers are required at the penetrations of the Corridors, Area
Separation Walls and Occupancy Separation Walls. The dampers require different
ratings for each application. Please indicate on the plans the rating for the dampers.
3. Detail 4/M6.2 indicates a duct seismic brace. In several locations the duct is
penetrating a corridor wall. Per Oregon Structural Specialty Code section 713.10 &
713.11, item 2, exception, a damper is not required if the duct is 26 gage and does not
serve the corridor. Clarify material used in the "FLEX CONNECTION" as indicated
on the detail. If the material is not 26 gage or better, a Fire /Smoke damper is required.
4. Additional Fire /Smoke dampers are required at the following location:
• Grid 10 @ H, Sheet M2.22
• Grid 6 @ Room 118, Sheet M2.23
• Grid 10 @ H, Sheet M2.22
• Grid 10 @ J, Sheet M2.22
5. Clarify the hydronic system design pressure. The new piping is required to be tested
at 1 %2 times the design pressure but not less than 100 PSI per section 1208 OMSC.

City of Tigard Plan Review Comments
0
in response to the IIVAC plan review comments from the City of l igard, we have the
N following.
11 Provide details jar the support of ducts
The support structure and installation instructions for ductwork are specified to
11 comply with SMACNA standards in section 15880- 3.03 -A of the construction
L documents. The numerous duct sizes, orientations. and building construction
types are addressed in chapter 4 ol'the SMACNA standard. The standard shows
duct attachment, duct reinforcement and support intervals. .1 o replicate the tables
and details on the construction documents would be redundant considering the
specification requirement. The seismic details indicate the minimum acceptable
requirements for support that we have selected from the vast array of options
N allowed by the SMACNA standard for seismic bracing relative to the duct sizes
listed on the detail. I'he SMACNA standard lists the interval liar support. The
spacing for this support type is 40 'feet on center laterally and 80 feet
longitudinally. However, since the mechanical contractor is required by section
15090- 3.03F3 to retain an engineer to design the seismic support system we would
request that review of this item be completed through a deferred submittal.
N 2) Fire AND Smoke Dampers are required..
This has been changed per the attached clarification to the contract documents.
c; '1 he 1.5 hr rated dampers can be used in one or two hr rated construction. I here
are no rated construction barriers higher than two hours.
N ;) Detail 4/M6.2 indicates a duct seismic brace...
This detail was changed after a conversation with Brian 13laylock. A copy of the
changed details are attached.
E 4) Additional i-`ire,i,Sinoke Dampers are required...
a. Grid 10 (dd I1, Sheet M2.22: A new I-'SI) will be added, see revised drawing.
tt b. Grid 6 (<i Room 118, Sheet M2.23: The design was changed during bidding
to eliminate the wall penetration requireing the damper. A more recent
change due to structure is attached showing the revised ductwork. 'Therefore
the damper is not required.
Sent By: MFIA INC; 5032340677; Aug -23 -04 9:29; Page 3/4
c. Grid I H . Sheet M2.31: A new FST) will he added, see revised drawing.
The drawing referenced in the code review does not appear to be correct, we
1® L have listed what we believe is the correct drawing, please verify.
-1 ][ d. Grid 10 (ii; J, Sheet M2.31: Ncw FSD will be added, see revised drawing. The
drawing referenced in the code review does not appear to he correct, we have
listed what we believe is the correct drawing,'please verify.
INC.
5) The highest pressure of the hydronic system will be at the discharge of the pump.
Per the pump schedule in phase 1 this will be 26 PSI plus about 12 -PST static
pressure. So the total pressure will he about 40 PSI maximum.

and 2 hour construction through fire - resistant rated construction per
applicable codes.
2) Article 2.02 C 3: Replace as follows.
3. Each damper shall be classified by UL as a "corridor damper" for
installation in tunnel corridors, shall be rated for 11/2 hours fire resistance
