How to Use This Table V -.. -- Floor Framing Lenaatis —
1. Determine appropriate FLOOR LOAD. +-- Span 1 ._._ - _
Span 2 _ __.
2. Find the FLOOR FRAMING LENGTH that meets or exceeds the sum of spans 1
and 2 for the supported floorjoists. When floor joists are continuous span,
spans 1 and 2 cannot be less than 40% of the FLOOR FRAMING LENGTH. w
If floorjoists are simple span (not continuous over the Parallam® PSL beam),
then the FLOOR FRAMING LENGTH may be taken as 80% of the sum of a
spans 1 and 2 of the floor joists.
3. Locate COLUMN SPACING.
4. Select Parallam® PSL

General Notes
Table is based on: Bearing Requirements
• Uniform loads. Minimum beam support to be 2 trimmers (3') at ends and 7 at
continuous span supports.
• More restrictive of simple or continuous span. Ratio of short span to
long span should be greater than 0.4 to prevent uplift. Bold, italic beam sizes require 3 trimmers (4 at ends and 11 at
continuous span supports.
• Deflection criteria of L/360 live load and L/240 total load.
Also see General Assumptions on page 3.
Floor Beam Quick Reference Tables
To use these charts: —___._._. .._......._.._.......__.._._.__ _ _
1. Select the correct table for the beam application you need. - \\—
2. Choose the required beam span in the left column. __ -
3. Select the span carried on the top line.
4. Read the beam size or choice of beam sizes from table. '
j.
Example: A 14' -0" span beam carries 15' -0" simple span joists on each side. .
So Using table below, 30' -0' span carried, select either 3 -1/2" x 16" or 5 -1/4" x 14 ". ! S pan -- /ed eeam Spa

GENERAL NOTES: Beam
1. Deflection criteria for quick reference tables: roofs: t/240 deflection limit for live load and 1/180 for total load I Blocking or other approved method of restraint required
floors: L/360 deflection limit for live load and L/240 for total load.
2. A deflection criteria of 11240 indicates the maximum deflection allowed for a 10' -0' span beam is 10 x 12 / 240 =1/2'.
3. Deeper beams or an additional ply will increase beam stiffness and reduce deflection.
4. Beam Width can be either a single piece of LVL or built up from individual plies of LVL that are nailed and /or bolted together.
Refer to page 13 of the Engineered Wood Product Guide for connection details.
5. Floor live loads have been reduced in accordance with the 2000/2003 IBC (ICC) section 1607.9.2, 1997 UBC (ICBO)
section 1607.5, 1999 NBC (BOCA) section 1606.7 and 1999 SBC (SBCCII section 1604.2. •
