Dear Ron:
At your request I have reviewed the development plans for the Barrows Estates off SW Barrows
Road in Tigard to determine if the burning of the house on the property will affect the trees that
are to be retained on the property.
As I understand the process of burning a house for training for the local fire department, all of the
shrubbery and trees within 20 feet of the structure to be burned will be removed from the
property to allow the house to burn. As the burning of a home may generate high heat that may
damage nearby trees, I have..reeviewed where the closest tree that is to be retained is located to the
home.
The closest tree to be retained for the development is at least 40 feet away. This is far enough
away from the house that unless the fire spreads beyond the home, there should be no heat
damage from the burning of the house. This is assuming that the training will consist of control
burning and that the house will not be allowed to be totally engulfed in flames. If the home is
totally engulfed in flames, there may be some possible heat damage to the trees if the wind in
blowing in the direction of where the trees are located, northeast of the house. The next closest
trees are to the west of the house along Barrows Road, approximately 55 feet from the house.
Please call if you have any questions or concerns regarding the information contained in this
report.
Sincerely,

13818 SW Barrows Road contractor has applied for a demo permit on the house there It has been ok'd
from planning and engineering, but one condition states that they must provide proof that they have
spoken with Terry Flanagan, the project arborist and that they understand his directives. I have talked to
Ron Palermini (the applicant) and he said he would bring that in when he picks up the permit.
