Re: Tigard Plan Review MST2006 -00101
Dear Mr. Yurecko:
We have once again reviewed the letter from the city of Tigard regarding
the plan check comments by Dan Nelson dated June 5, 2006. As you are
aware, we were originally directed to provide calculations and drawings
prior to the joist and truss manufacturer's layouts, and that the joist and truss
manufacturer would comply with the structural drawings. Our initial
response to the plan check comments was consistent with the above
directive. At your request, we have now revised the structural drawings and
calculations to comply with the joist and truss manufacturer's layouts and
will reply to the plan check comments as such.
Included with this letter are 3 sets of revised calculations and revised
structural drawing sheets S2, S3 & S4 for both lots 9 & 13. The enclosed
calculation pages are intended to replace ALL of the original calculation
pages GI through G32 with the enclosed pages GI through G65. The
calculation revisions include all necessary changes to match the floor joist
and truss layouts. Also included are calculations for every beam, as
°
requested.
Please note, several modifications will need to be made to the joist
manufacturer's layout. Attached with this letter is figure 1, which details the
required changes.
We respond to the plan check comments as follows:
E
° Item 2: Drawings have been revised to match truss manufacturer's
layout. See revised sheets S2, S3 & S4.
Item 3: Drawings have been coordinated with the joist manufacturer's
° layout. However, as stated above, several modifications will
need to be made to the joist manufacturer's layout. Please
have the joist manufacturer modify there layout as per figure 1
and the revised structural drawings sheets S2, S3 & S4.

Re: Tigard Plan Review MST2006 -00 1 0 1
Dear Mr. Yurecko:
We have reviewed the letter from the city of Tigard regarding the plan
check comments by Dan Nelson dated June 5, 2006. We respond as
follows.
Item 1: Please have the appropriate entity add an additional section
cut on the plans as indicated by City of Tigard. (By Others)
Item 2: It is our understanding the truss & joist manufacturer will revise
there layout and analysis to comply with S3 & S4 of the
structural drawings.
Item 3: Joist manufacturer to match the beam sizes as indicated on
S3.
Item 4: We have revised the S2 sheet to include the location of the
holddown anchors. Attached are three stamped copies of
the revised S2 sheet.
Item 5: Please refer to the revised S3 sheet included with this letter.
We have added an additional note and detail as requested.
0
Item 6: We have reviewed the structural drawings and did not find
any discrepancies between the architectural floor plans and
the structural drawing set. Please have the joist and truss
manufacturer review their drawings to match the architectural
floor plans and all structural information within the stamped
structural drawing set, sheets Si through S6. If it is determined
there are differences between the architectural floor plans
and the structural plans, please specify the location and we
° will update our drawings accordingly.
Item 7: All beams have been grouped and named according to size
and then assigned an individual number. For example, we
have grouped together all 3.5 x 11.785 LVL beams and titled
the group as 3.5 x 11.875 LVL to avoid confusion. Group
designations and locations for beams are shown on
calculation sheets G2, G4 & G8. The beam number

corresponding to each individual beam is located on sheets
G3, G5 & G9. The Woodworks software, which we use for our
wood design, automatically identifies the most critical member
for each group and summarizes its findings on G1 of our
calculations. For example, under the "Critical members and
design criteria" table on G1 of the calculations, the program
has identified member b39 as the most critical beam of the
3.5x1 1.875LVL group. We therefore provide a calculation of
each of these critical members. In the case of b39, the
calculation is listed on calc sheet G20. Typically we do not
provide calculations for the remaining "non- critical" beams
within each group as we've already shown the worse -case
beam is satisfactory, unless requested.
Item 8: The shearwall was analyzed and designed as a 2' -4.5" wide
shearwall; however the detail incorrectly reads 3' -1.5 ". We
have revised detail 9/S6 to match the foundation plan. Please
see the attached copy of the revised structural sheet S6.
Sincerely,
