PROJECT: Cabrera Loft Infill PROJECT #: 09003.00 DATE: May 5, 2009
Structural Narrative
The addition of a structural loft infill has been proposed for the home located at 11422 SW Cole Lane. The
existing structure is light- framed wood construction with approximately 2300 sf of living space covering
two levels. The proposed changes will provide approximately no sf of additional living space above the
existing great room /dining room.
It should be noted that in the location of the proposed addition, posts and beams are existing and appear
to have been placed during the time of construction in foresight of expansion to the upper level. No
construction documents were available for the construction of this house, so existing framing is
designated as "field verify" on the submitted plans with the intent to verify framing during construction.
Plans will be updated as necessary should existing conditions differ from those shown on the plans.
This project consisted only of gravity analysis of the proposed infill and design of connections for a
proposed 3' -6" tall knee wall. Although neither a seismic nor wind force analysis was performed on the
structure, it is assumed that wind forces controlled the design of the structure at the time of construction;
therefore, the addition of the loft space will provide additional support for out -of -plane wind forces for the
exterior wall framing. It should also be noted that the addition of no sf has a negligible effect (< 5% based
on 12psf dead load) on the seismic mass of the structure.
All design has been performed in accordance with the 2006 Oregon Residential Specialty Code.
