Subject: New Interior Door In. Shearwall — BUILIING DR,I 1 ':
Lateral Engineering
A new door has been added in the crawl space of the plan as shown in the
enclosed Lower Floor plan from sheet L2. The door is reported to be 32 inches
wide and 6'10" inches tall. The door is placed in the middle of a previously
designed B/7 shearwall. Also, as shown on the enclosed marked -up lower floor
. plan, two B/7 shearwalls are to be framed together, creating 14 foot long
shearwall instead of two shorter walls.
After reviewing the design loads on these walls, the following retrofit actions are
to be accomplished in order to provide the lateral resistance required.
An HTT5 or HTT22 holdown is to be added to the larger of the two
remaining shearwalls on either side of the new door, as shown in the
enclosed section A -A sketch. The Holdown is to be anchored into the
concrete with a 5/8 inch diameter rod embedded 10 inches and secured
with Simpson SET epoxy.
Blocking is to be added in line with the door header and connected with an
MST48 strap as shown in the sketch.
The 14 foot long continuous shearwall Identified in the marked up lower floor plan
does not require the two interior holdowns, now that the opening has been
eliminated. This longer shearwall also helps reduce the lateral loads on the
shearwall with the new door.
