This house is designed to accommodate an ADU but its main intent of the floor plan is really to have the (ADU) be part of the home as well. The occupants will be most likely aware of any fire in the house regardless of dwelling location because its location within the house. The occupants in this case will be very aware of the surroundings in the home. This home is not a true "duplex" designed home. The existing door is a solid alder wood door and I purpose that a sweep at the bottom of the door to be installed to prevent smoke from filtering beneath the door.
