This addendum forms a part of the Contract Documents and modifies the original Bidding Documents dated
December 19, 2003 and any previously issued addenda as noted below. Acknowledge receipt of this Addendum in
the space provided on the Bid Form. Failure to do so may subject the Bidder to disqualification.

SECTION 00111 — Substitution Request Form:
1. The last date to receive Substitution Requests for this project AND for the Templeton ES project will
be extended until 5:00 PM on Friday, March 12, 2004. Requests may be submitted directly to any of the
project design team but must arrive before the closing date /time. Requests which will be allowed will be
published in Addendum #3 scheduled to be issued on Monday, March 15.
SECTION 00400 — Bid Form: •
1. Clarify: The Base Bid Lump Sum price given on the Bid Form shall include all permit fees for BOTH
Twality and Templeton projects EXCLUDING the Building Permit and the Sitework Permit fees which will
be paid by the Owner.
2. Clarify: Alternate prices given by bidders on the Bid Form shall include the total cost for all sub trades to
complete all items of work related to each particular alternate.
SECTION 07530 — Membrane Roofing:
1. Replace this Section in its entirety with the new Section 07530 included as an attachment to this Addendum.
SECTION 07533 - Single Ply Membrane Roofing:
1. Incorporate this Section, included as an attachment to this Addendum, into the Project Manual.

SECTION 07611 - Preformed Sheet Metal Roofing:
1. Modify subparagraph 3.03.A.3 as follows: "...for installation over metal deck and requirements..."
2. Modify subparagraph 3.03.A.4 as follows: "...by the manufacturer. Where structural metal deck is left
exposed to view on interior face, space fasteners so that no fastener penetrates lower flute of metal deck.
Do not allow fasteners at top flute to project beyond the bottom flute. Maximum penetration past top
flute 1 inch or as recommended by insulation manufacturer."

1.09 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
A. Conform to applicable code for roof assembly fire hazard and wind uplift requirements.

1.10 PRE- INSTALLATION CONFERENCE
A. Convene a pre - installation conference one week prior to commencing work of this Section.
B. Review installation procedures and coordination required with related work.
1.11 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver products to site under provisions of Section 01600.
B. Store and protect products under provisions of Section 01600.
C. Deliver products in manufacturer's original containers, dry, undamaged, with seals and labels
intact.
D. Roofing materials, coatings, roofing felt, etc., shall not be delivered for storage at the Site sooner
than 24 hours before needed for application in the Work.
E. Store products in weather protected environment, clear of ground and moisture. Do not leave
materials exposed to the elements. Remove all wet and damp materials from the site.
F. Store roofing felts on end. Store felts in a totally dry area such as in a totally enclosed van, truck
or trailer. Coverings over roofing felts stored on the roof shall be loose fitting and blocked up
away from the felts to proved adequate ventilation and prevent condensation from forming and /or
coming in contact with the felts.

1.12 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Do not apply roofing membrane during inclement weather.
B. Do not apply roofing membrane to damp or frozen deck surface.
C. Do not apply roofing membrane unless temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit and rising unless
otherwise approved.
1.13 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING
A. Coordinate work under provisions of Section 01040.
B. Coordinate the work of installing associated metal flashings as the work of this Section proceeds.
1.14 QUALITY CONTROL AND TESTING
A. Conform to Section 01400.
B. Manufacturer's Representative: The material manufacturer's field representative will be
responsible for:
1. Assisting in ascertaining conformance with the requirements of these specifications and
to the published instructions of the material manufacturer.
2. Keeping Architect informed after periodic inspections as to the progress and quality of
the work as observed. Providing written field reports after every inspection.
3. Calling to the attention of the Contractor and applicator those observed matters which he
considers to be in conflict with requirements of specifications and /or published
instructions of material manufacturer.
4. Supervising the taking of test cuts and the restoration of such area.
5. Certifying, after completion of the work and based on his observations and tests, his
opinion as to the extent to which the applicator has complied with this specification, as
well as to the published instructions of the material manufacturer.
6. The presence and activities of the material manufacturer's field representative will in no
way relieve the Contractor or roofing installer of their contractual responsibilities.

1.15 WARRANTY
A. At completion of project the roofing manufacturer shall deliver to Owner a fifteen (15) year
manufacturer Roofing System Quality Assurance Warranty and Owner's Manual. Manufacturer
will, during the second and fifth year of this warranty, inspect roof system and perform
- preventative maintenance including general repairs and house keeping at no cost to the Owner.
Manufacturer will provide the District a written Executive Summary of findings of inspection and
maintenance items performed
B. The Manufacture's Warranty will include labor and material coverage against leakage on all
components of roofing system including those manufactured by others. Included in the warranty
coverage are the following:
1. Insulation materials, fasteners and adhesives.
2. All new and temporary roof membrane components and adhesives.
3. All metal flashing, penetration flashing, metal wall panels and metal edge components
including cleat strip.
4. All tapered edge and cant strips.
5. All surface mastics, coatings, snipping plies etc..
6. All drain and scupper flashings.
7. Any roof leaks or other problems caused by substrate movement of any component other
than the deck shall NOT be excluded.

3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that surfaces and site conditions are ready to receive work.
B. Verify that deck is supported and secured. Notify Architect of all loose or unsafe decking.
C. Verify that deck is clean and smooth, free of depressions, waves, or projections, properly sloped
to drains or eaves.
D. Verify that deck surfaces are dry and free of snow or ice.

E. Verify that roof openings, curbs, pipes, sleeves, ducts, and vents through roof are solidly set, and
cant strips and curbs are in place.
F. At existing roof decks check projections, curbs, and deck for inadequate anchorage, foreign
material, moisture, or unevenness that would prevent quality and execution of new roofing system.
Install new wood curbs to raise curb height.
G. Beginning of installation means installer accepts existing substrate.
3.02 WORKMANSHIP
•
A. Substrate: Free of foreign particles prior to laying roof membrane.
B. Traffic and equipment: Keep off completed plies until adhesive has set.
C. Traffic and equipment: Kept off completed plies until adhesive has set.
D. Wrapper and packaging materials: Not to be included in roofing system.
E. Entrapped aggregate: Not permitted within new membrane. Its discovery is sufficient cause for
rejection.
F. Ply shall never touch ply, even at roof edges, laps, tapered edge strips, and cants.
G. Fit plies into roof drain rims; install lead flashing and finishing plies; secure clamping collars;
install domes.
H. Extend roofing membrane two (2) inches above the top edge of cant at wall and projection bases.
I. Cut out fishmouths /side laps which are not completely sealed and patch. Replace all sheets which
are not fully and continuously bonded,
J. Mechanical fasteners:
. Seated firmly in discs with fastener heads flush or below disc's top surface.
2. Length: Sufficient to accommodate roof insulation thickness and engage deck one (I)
inch minimum. Install one fastener per two square feet. Where deck is left exposed to
view on interior face, space fasteners so that no fastener penetrates lower flute of deck.
Do not allow fasteners at top flute to project beyond the bottom flute.
3.03 PREPARATION
A. Protection:
1. Contractor shall be responsible for protection of property during course of work. Lawns,
shrubbery, paved areas, and building shall be protected from damage. Repair damage at
no extra cost to Owner.
2. Provide at site prior to commencing removal of debris, a dumpster or dump truck to be
located adjacent to building where directed by Owner.
3. Roofing, flashings, membrane repairs, and insulation shall be installed and sealed in a
watertight manner on same day of installation or before arrival of inclement weather.
4. At start of each work day drains within daily work area shall be plugged. Plugs to be
removed at end of each work day or before arrival of inclement \veather.
5. Preparation work shall be limited to those areas that can be covered with installed roofing
material on same day or before arrival of inclement weather.
6. Arrange work sequence to avoid use of newly constructed roofing for storage, walking
surface, and equipment movement. Move equipment and ground storage areas as work
progresses.

7. Protect building surfaces at set -up areas with tarpaulin. Secure tarpaulin. Remove
dumpster from premises when full and empty at approved dumping or refuse area.
Deliver empty dumpster to site for further use. Upon job completion, dumpster shall be
removed from premises. Spilled or scattered debris shall be cleaned -up immediately.
Removed material to be disposed from roof as it accumulates.
8. At end of each working day, removal areas shall be sealed with water stops along edges
to prevent water entry.
9. Provide clean plywood walkways and take other precautions required to prevent tracking
of aggregate /debris from existing membrane into new work area where aggregate /debris
pieces can be trapped within new roofing membrane. Contractor shall instruct and police
workers to ensure that aggregate /debris is not tracked into new work areas on workmen's
shoes or equipment wheels. Discovery of entrapped aggregate /debris within new
membrane is sufficient cause for its rejection.
B. Surface preparation at existing roof decks:
1. Remove all roof membranes and insulation. Remove debris from roof area and job site:
2. Sweep clean deck and notify the Owner of any defective areas prior to replacement.
3. Sweep /vacuum all loose gravel from roof area to be reroofed.
3.04 PROTECTION
A. Protect building surfaces against damage from roofing work.
3.05 INSULATION APPLICATION
A. New insulation material shall have accurate dimensions and sufficient structural stability to
properly conform to the surfaces of the roof cants, curbs, pipes, etc. Joints between boards shall
be tight, except at junctions with all vertical surfaces and sumps, where 1/2 inch clearance shall be
maintained. Protect insulation from the weather at all times. Lay no more insulation than can be
completely covered by a waterproofing membrane during the same day. A fully adhered base
sheet course shall be considered to be a satisfactory weather barrier for no longer than 24 hours.
Insulation that becomes wet during or after installation shall be removed and replaced with dry
insulation. If the membrane has already been applied over such wet insulation, then the roofing
membrane shall also be replaced. All such replacement work shall be at no additional charge to
the owner.
B. Conform to roofing manufacturers written standards for installation over both wood decks and
requirements included herein.
C. Insulation application: Except as noted, install fiberboard insulation over polyiso. insulation,
stagger joints. Apply insulation with long joints continuous either parallel to roof edges. All end
joints shall be staggered at least six inches.. Firmly butt each board to surrounding boards.
Mechanically attach to structural deck. Drive fasteners flush to top surface.
D. Cut and fit boards where roof deck intersects vertical surfaces.
E. Filler boards require two (2) fasteners per board, minimum. Filler size: Eighteen (18) inches in
length or width, minimum.
F. No more insulation shall be applied than can be completely covered with the finished membrane
on the same day.
3.06 CANT INSTALLATION
A. Bear cant full on roof deck and against vertical surfaces corners mitered. Place at all vertical
surfaces or curbs, roof edges and other locations where required.

3.07 APPLICATION OF PLIES - COLD BUILT UP SYSTEM
A. At all perimeter edges to receive metal `ravel stop or metal drip edge, install an 18" wide sheet of
trilaminate composite ply sheet either nailed at 12" o.c. or set adhesive. Sheet shall extend 6"
beyond edge of roof. This dry sheet shall be turned down the outside of the roof edge and the
perimeter metal flashing shall be installed over top. Excess material extending below perimeter
metal will be trimmed even with bottom of face of metal edge. Absence of this sheet during final
inspection will be grounds for rejection of roof edge detail
B. Roof Drains: Set lead sheet flashing into roofing mastic applied evenly and uniformly. Tap lead
to mold firmly onto mastic and into drain lip. Plumber to install clamping ring and tighten
securely to roof drain.
C. Install ply sheets in shingle fashion. Place ply sheets to ensure water will flow over or parallel to;
but, never against exposed edges.
D. Use starter plies of appropriate width to start and finish roof membrane along roof edges and
terminations.
E. Lap ply sheet ends six (6) inches. Stagger end laps twelve (12) inches minimum.
F. Broom each ply into adhesive. Ensure complete and continuous seal and contact between bitumen
and ply sheets, including ends, edges, and laps without wrinkles, fishmouths, or blisters. Broom •
width: Thirty -four (34) inches minimum. Avoid walking on plies until adhesive has set.
G. Embed each ply in a uniform and continuous spray of mastic. Interply rate: 2.5 gallons. Per 100
sq. ft.
3.08 DAILY WATERSTOP /TIE -INS
A. Remove embedded gravel /debris from top ply of felt along termination.
B. Width: Eighteen (18) inches.
C. Adhere twelve (12) and eighteen (18) inch wide ply sheets from exposed deck to existing roofing
with a continuous 1/16 inch thick application of tie -off mastic. Glaze cut -off with surfacing
mastic. Extend eighteen (18) inch wide felt three (3) inches either side twelve (12) inch felt.
D. Install "deadman" insulation filler at insulation staggers.
E. Extend roofing system at least twelve (12) inches onto prepared area of adjacent roofing. Seal
edge with six (6) inch wide reinforcing membrane embedded between alternate courses of tie -off
mastic.
F. At beginning of next day's work remove temporary connection by cutting felts evenly along edge
of existing roof system. Remove "deadman" insulation fillers.

3.09 PERMANENT WATERSTOP /TIE -ENS
A. Remove embedded gravel /debris from top ply of felt along termination.
1. Width: Eighteen (18) inches. Sweep clean. Prime swept surface with asphalt primer at
100 sq. ft. per gallon.
B. Adhere twelve (12) and eighteen (18) inch wide ply sheets from exposed deck to existing roofing
with a continuous application of tie -off mastic. Glaze cut -off with surfacing mastic. Extend
eighteen (18) inch wide felt three (3) inches either side twelve (12) inch felt.
C. Extend roofing system at least twelve (12) inches onto prepared area of adjacent roofing. Seal
edge with six (6) inch wide reinforcing membrane embedded between alternate courses of tie -off
mastic. Install new granules in wet mastic.
3.10 FLASHINGS AND ACCESSORIES
A. Conform to NRCA details for construction.
B. Elastomeric Flashing:
1. Adhere elastomeric sheeting completely to flashing surface, cant, and roofing with
flashing adhesive /bitumen.
2. Ensure complete bond and continuity without wrinkles or voids. Lap sheeting ends four
(4) inches; wipe both sides of seams with solvent and splice ends with lap adhesive; steel
roll. Wipe top of seam with solvent and apply edge sealant.
3. Elastomeric sheeting width: Sufficient to extend at least six (6) inches beyond toe of cant
onto new roof.
4. Seal roof edge of sheeting with reinforcing membrane embedded between alternate
continuous courses of flashing adhesive.
C. Two -Ply Stripping:
1. Set flange in asphalt mastic. Seal flange with two (2) stripping plies embedded between
alternate applications of stripping adhesive /bitumen. Center first ply on edge of flange;
extend second ply two (2) inches beyond first ply. Ensure stripping covers metal
completely.
D. Coat all base flashing with reflective aluminum coating.
E. Replace any missing drain screen or caps.
F. All pipe leads shall have a fabricated stainless steel screen, 1/4" grid, soldered to the top of the
lead cap. All lead caps shall be secured to the base with elastomeric mastic.
3.11 SURFACING APPLICATION
A. Roofing aggregate:
1. Apply a continuos application of adhesive at a rate of 5 gallons per 100 sq. Ft.
2. Install fresh clean roofing aggregate at a rate of 300 lbs per 100 sq. ft.
3. Smooth surfacing:
4. Where specified in drawings, apply elastomeric emulsion at a rate of 4 gallons per 100
sq. Ft.
5. After proper cure time apply reflective coating at a rate of 2 gallon per 100 sq. Ft.

3.12 WALKWAYS
A. Install walkway panels in front of all FIVAC or Service Panels.
3.13 CONTROL JOINT
A. Install a CSPE sheet membrane over all existing or new control joint areas.
3.14 CLEANING
A. Remove bituminous markings from finished surfaces.
B. In areas where finished surfaces are soiled by asphalt or any other source of soiling caused by
work of this Section, consult manufacturer of surfaces for cleaning advice and conform to their
instructions.
C. Repair or replace defaced or disfigured finished caused by work of this Section.
D. Immediately upon job completion, roof membrane and flashing surfaces shall be cleaned of debris.
E. Clean gutters and downspouts of debris.
3.15 PROTECTION
A. Where traffic must continue over finished roof installation, protect surfaces.

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Apply roofing system using a roofing contractor and crew authorized by manufacturer.
B. Inspection: Upon completion of the installation, an inspection shall be made by a representative of
the manufacturer to ascertain that the roofing system has been installed according to manufacturer
approved specifications and details. Upon approval of the project, a Warranty shall be written.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. Minimum job file submittal information for consideration for labor and material warranty
coverage shall be an accurately completed Request for Warranty form and the information
discussed below.
B. Samples and data sheets of all materials not supplied or approved by manufacturer shall be
submitted to manufacturer for written approval prior to the start of installation.

C. Shop Drawings:
1. Authorized roofing contractors must submit a roof drawing indicating which details will
be employed in the project. Drawings shall be approved by manufacturer and reviewed
by Architect prior to the start of work.
2. Details must include:
a. Outline and size of the roof
b. Location and type of penetrations
c. Perimeter and penetration flashing detail references
d. A copy of any non approved details to be used. Details which do not conform to
Manufacturer's Standard Details must be shown as to their anticipated
construction.
e. Indicate roofing seams and fastening patterns
f Depth of insulation over the entire roof area and, at tapered insulation, slope of
tapered insulation, drainage pattern and area that tapered insulation is located.
3. Submit shop drawings approved by manufacturer to the Architect for review.
D. Product Literature: Submit to the Architect product data for all materials to be used in the roofing
system.
E. Submit letter from membrane roofing manufacturer that shop drawings have been approved.
F. Submit manufacturer's warranty meeting the requirements of this Section to the Architect for
review.
1.06 PRECAUTIONS
A. Adhesives, solvents, and caulks as indicated are extremely flammable and /or toxic

procedures and workmanship of roofing sub - contractor. Inspection includes insulation, flashing,
membrane, seams and accessories. Provide quality certification prior to substantial completion.
D. Attendance by roofing sub - contractor, sheet metal sub - contractor and membrane roofing
representative is mandatory.

1.09 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver products to site under provisions of Section 01600.
B. Store and protect products under provisions of Section 01600 and per membrane roofing
manufacturer's requirements.
C. Deliver products in manufacturer's original containers, dry, undamaged, with seals and labels
intact.
D. Roofing materials shall not be delivered for storage at the Site sooner than 24 hours before needed
for application in the Work.
E. Store products in weather protected environment, clear of ground and moisture. Do not leave
• materials exposed to the elements. Remove all wet and damp materials from the site.
F. Store membrane in a dry area such as in an enclosed van, truck or trailer. Coverings over roofing
membrane stored on the roof shall be loose fitting and blocked up away from the roof deck to
provide adequate ventilation and prevent condensation from forming and /or coming in contact
with the roof membrane.
1.10 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Manufacturer's Roofing System materials may be installed under certain adverse weather
conditions such as extremes of high and low temperatures, or high humidity conditions but only
after consulting the Roofing System Technical Department since special precautions may have to
be applied. Installation costs, production rates and material performance may be affected by the
foregoing conditions.
B. Any substrate to receive new insulation, membrane or flashing shall be thoroughly dry. Should
surface moisture occur, the contractor shall provide adequate equipment to dry the substrate.
C. Do not allow waste products containing petroleum, grease, acid, solvents, vegetable or mineral oil,
animal oil, animal fat, etc. or direct steam venting to come into direct contact with the Roofing
Membrane. Contact Manufacturer for recommendations if such conditions exist.
D. The applicator shall follow all safety regulations as recommended by OSHA.
E. Follow precautions indicated on can and carton labels.
•
F. Always provide provisions to ensure positive drainage without pending of water (per NRCA
guidelines) in all areas. Good roofing practice does not permit uncontrolled, uncollected drainage
over the edge of a roof.
G. All fasteners are recommended to be installed with a depth - sensing screw gun to prevent over-
driving or under driving. The ASAP and PIF adapter tools are recommended for the installation of
roofing fasteners.
H. All rooftop mechanical units are to have their condensation lines piped to drains, or off the roof.

1.1] SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING
A. Coordinate work under provisions of Section 01040.
B. Coordinate the work of installing associated metal flashings as the work of this Section proceeds.
1.12 WARRANTY
A. Upon project completion, Manufacturer acceptance and once complete payment has been received
by both Contractor and Manufacturer, Manufacturer shall deliver to Owner a fifteen year non -
prorated manufacturer Roofing System Quality Assurance Warranty and Owner's Manual.
Manufacturer will, during the second and fifth year of this warranty, inspect and provide a written
Executive Summary. The Manufacturer's Warranty will include labor and material coverage
against leakage on all components of roofing system including those manufactured by others,
these components must be pre- approved by manufacturer. Included in the warranty coverage are
the following:
1. Insulation materials, fasteners and adhesives.
2. All new and temporary roof membrane components and adhesives.
3. All tapered edge and cant strips.
4. All drain and scupper flashings.
5. Any roof leaks or problems caused by movement of the roofing substrate other than the
deck shall not be excluded.
6. Damages caused by wind speeds up to 74 miles per hour.
B. The contractor shall verify compliance with the above warranty requirements by submitting a copy
of the warranty as a submittal item.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
A. All material shall be furnished, specified or approved in writing by manufacturer. Samples of all
materials used on the project that are not supplied by manufacturer shall be furnished to
manufacturer for written approval prior to the start of work.
2.02 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURER'S

2.03 MEMBRANE
A. Fleece Backed Membrane shall be .060 inch nominal thickness overall, .080 inch nominal
thickness in selected areas, scrim - reinforced Ethylene propylene -based sheet 76,5 inches wide by
appropriate length conforming to the minimum physical properties in Table below.
B. Color: Light Grey.
C. Packaging to bear the UL and FM labels.
2.04 ACCESSORIES
A. Bonding Adhesive: Suitable for bonding of membrane to approved substrates, as recommended
by manufacturer.
B. Flashing: Flashing shall be same as the membrane.
C. Termination Bar: Extruded aluminum bar as recommended by manufacturer.
D. Adhesives, Sealants, Primers, Cleaners and Caulks: As recommended by manufacturer.
E. Membrane Fasteners and Discs: Provide fasteners and discs as recommended by manufacturer for
roof substrate.

PART 3 — EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION
A. The contractor shall be responsible for the suitability of the substrate surface to accept Hi- Tuff /EP
membrane.
B. Prior to the start of work, the substrate shall be smooth and free of debris, sharp edges, and other
surface irregularities that will be detrimental to the installation. Any unevenness or joints gapped
greater than 1 /4 -in. in the membrane substrate can cause inconsistent membrane welds and must
be avoided. When such conditions occur, fill with appropriate and properly secured material
approved by manufacturer.
C. Structural decks:
1. Shall be dry, level, clean, smooth, free of sharp edges, and suitable for acceptance of
membrane.
2. Install slip plates over all joints where membrane seams will cross to minimize welding
inconsistency.

SINGLE PLY MEMBRANE ROOFING

D. Nailers: Treated wooden hailers shall be installed at drip edges. Refer to Section 0611? — Framing
and Sheathing for requirements of Pressure treated lumber.
1. Nailer should be anchored with a suitable fastener for the application having a minimum
withdrawal resistance of 100 pounds, staggered 6 inches on center within 8 feet of an
outside corner and 12 inches on center along other perimeter areas.
2. Nailer thickness shall be chosen to match the top surface of adjacent insulation.
3. Nailers around skylights, curbs, expansion joints, etc, are not required. Use of Plates and
Screws anchored to deck 12 inches on center through membrane and insulation is
acceptable.
3.02 APPLICATION
A. Coverboard:
I. Minimum thickness: Shall be approved in writing by manufacturer.
2. Attachment: All coverboards must be attached with manufacturer approved fasteners.
Space fasteners so that no fastener penetrates lower flute of metal deck. Do not allow
fasteners at top flute to project beyond the bottom flute. Maximum penetration past top
flute 1 inch or as recommended by membrane manufacturer.
B. Attachment of Membrane:
1. Structural decks: Membrane is to be attached with bonding adhesive as approved by
manufacturer and as required by Factory Mutual. Consult manufacturer's standard
details for appropriate application rate.
C. Installation of Membrane:
I. Fully Adhered System: Adhere roof membrane according to manufacturer's instructions
with approved bonding adhesive on roof areas shown on Plans. Fasten perimeter using
vertical wall attachment details.
2. Field sheets: Membrane shall be unrolled on the area to be covered. Adjoining rolls of
membrane shall overlap adjacent membrane by 4 1/2- inches.
D. Lap splice: Membrane shall be overlapped and hot -air welded without any contaminants
(adhesive, dirt, debris, etc.) in the seam.
1. The entire lap edge must be probed with approved seam probing tool after it has cooled
completely to verify seam consistency. Probing before the seam area has cooled will
damage the membrane.
2. Provide destructive tests performed daily on a 3 -in. wide area of seam weld to verify
good peel strength. A properly welded seam will have membrane delamination from
scrim prior to weld failure. Destructive tests on welds should be done for the first seam of
the day, first seam after the robot welder has been allowed to cool down, and after any
extreme changes in weather conditions. Cut edges shall be caulked by applying Seam
Caulk from a squeeze bottle.
3. Membrane, as with any material after exposure, will require cleaning prior to seaming.
The approved method for cleaning the membrane prior to welding is as follows:
a) Remove any visible dirt and debris with a clean rag and water. For heavily
contaminated surfaces, scrubbing with a detergent cleaner followed by a water
rinse may be necessary.
b) With a clean scrub pad saturated with Seam Cleaner, aggressively agitate the
seaming area. With a clean white rag, follow with a final one swipe pass over
the seaming area, careful to not redeposit any contaminants back onto the
cleansed sheet surface.
c) Allow Seam Cleaner to completely flash off (i.e., membrane should be
completely dry).

d) Follow the standard welding procedures with an approximated 20% reduction in
speed.
e) Final weld strength may not be achieved for several days.
E. Perimeter fastening: Treated Wood nailers are required for perimeter fascia, parapet and drip
edges. Membrane shall be mechanically fastened 12 inches on center through Membrane into
deck. Fastening shall occur at fascias, and any other roof penetrations that exceed 24 -in. in any
dimension.
F. Flashing: Perimeters, and other details shall be flashed as shown in Detail Drawings. Under no
condition shall flashing cover weep holes or any form of through wall drainage.
1. Apply Bonding Adhesive to both underside of flashing membrane and surface to which it
is to be bonded, at a rate of approximately one gallon per 60 square Feet (when applied to
two surfaces) of building roof surface coverage.
2. Bonding Adhesive shall be allowed to dry to finger touch until it does not string or stick
to a dry finger. Roll the flashing into the dry adhesive. Care must be taken to ensure that
the flashing does not bridge where there is any elevation or directional change.
Completely roll the flashing membrane against the substrate using a hand roller, J- roller
or similar device applying positive pressure to the entire surface area to promote full
contact.
3. All flashing shall be mechanically fastened at the top, under or through appropriate
counter flashing with approved fasteners and with an approved termination detail as
shown in detail drawings.
4. Metal flashing at perimeter shall be made and installed as per Standard Details.
5. The Fascia edge system is recommended whenever suitable in accordance with the
Standard Details.
G. Metal work: Provided under Section 07620 — Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim. Fastening of metal
work shall be as directed by membrane roofing manufacturer.
I . Metal work shall be installed according to applicable details.
2. All metal work must be sealed and waterproofed in an acceptable manner.
H. Overnight seal /temporary water stop: Shall be made by a sealant method provided or approved in
writing by the manufacturer. To protect the insulation from inclement weather at the end of each
day's work, the membrane is extended beyond the insulation and set into the approved overnight
seal material. Roofing contractor shall coordinate installation to ensure the system is made
watertight at the end of each work day.
