The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC),
2004 edition; and the Oregon Fire Code (OFC), 2004 edition. The submitted plans are
approved subject to the following.
General requirements '
1. A key box shall be installed within 20 feet of the main entrance. The bottom of the
key box shall be not less than 8 feet nor more than 10 feet above the walking surface
unless approved by the Fire Chief,Section 506 OFC
Upon completion of the installation, fire detection and alarm systems shall be subject
to acceptance tests as contained in the installation standards and as approved by the
Building Official. The City of Tigard, Building Inspector shall be notified before any
required acceptance testing. It shall be unlawful to occupy any portion of the building
until the detection and alarm systems have been tested. Section 901.5 . OFC
3. Connections to the light and power service shall be on a dedicated branch circuit. The
circuit and connections shall be mechanically protected. The circuit disconnecting
means shall have a red marking, shall be accessible only to authorized personnel, and
shall be identified as "FIRE ALARM CIRCUIT CONTROL". Section 4.4.1.4
NFPA 72.
Manual Devices
4. Manual Fire Alarm activation devices shall be mounted a minimum of 42 inches and
a maximum of 48 inches measured vertically from the floor to the activating handle
or lever of the device. Section 907.4.2 OFC.

Visual Devices (Section 1109.14 OSSC)
5. Visual signal appliances shall be provided in the building in each of the following
areas:
• Restrooms and any other general use area (e.g., meeting rooms)
• Hallways
• Lobbies
• • Common use areas. •
6. Visual alarms shall be located not less than 80 inches and not more than 96 inches
above the floor level. When a low ceiling exists, the visual alarm shall be mounted at
least 6 inches below the ceiling.
.7. Visual alarms shall have a minimum candela rating of 75 candelas.
8. No place in a room shall be more than 50 feet from a visual signal.
9. No place in a common corridors or hallways shall be more than 50 feet from a visual
signal.
10. In large rooms exceeding 100 feet across and without obstructions 6 feet or more
above the floor, devices may be placed around the perimeter spaced at a maximum, of
100 feet apart.
Smoke Detection Devices

Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall
be maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors
throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
Premises Identification: Approved numbers or addresses shall be provided for all new
buildings in such a position as to be plainly visible and legible from the street or road
fronting the property.
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City of
Tigard in tracking and proce ing the documents.

required prior to the issuance of the Fire Protection System permit.
SMOKE DETECTION
1. The following rooms do not indicate smoke detection devices. Room # A110, A111,
A112, A113, B108, B110, B111, B112, C103, C104, C105, C106, C107, D106,
D107, D108, D109, A210, A211, A217, A224, B211, B214, B215, B216, C211,
C212, D213, D214, D215 & D216. Please revise the plans to indicate the required
smoke detection devices. This is a "Total Coverage" system.
2. The smoke detectors indicated in the Gymnasium exceed the manufacturer's
installation requirements for spacing. Please revise the plans to indicate the
additional devices to comply with the installation instructions.
3. The skylights indicated adjacent to the Library Reception Counter and the skylights in
Activity Room B213, Activity Room D210, Classroom C211 & Classroom C212 do
not indicate note 23. Please revise the plans to indicate smoke detectors at the top
of all skylight shafts.
VISIBLE NOTIFICATION
4. Although visual alarm notification devices have been provided in the appropriate
rooms, the following rooms lack coverage due to the device location in the room or
an inadequate candela rating indicated on the plans. Room # A109, A111, A112,
A113, B109, BI 10, B111, B112, C106, C107, D106, D107, D108, D109, A201,
A207, A209, A213, A214, A215, A219, A226, A228, B201, B213, B214, B215,
B216, C212, D210, D213, D214, D215, D216. Please revise the plans to comply
with the coverage requirements of NFPA 72, Section 7.5.4.1, 2002 edition.
5. The following rooms do not have visual devices. Room # A108, C102, D104, A208,
A210, A211, A217, A224, C207, D211. Please revise the plans to indicate visual
devices of the appropriate candela rating.
CALCULATIONS
6. Provide revised battery calculations for the additional devices.
GENERAL
