I'm not personally familiar with the project. If there is no useable or habitable space behind a concrete wall,
then there is no code requirement for a footing drain. Often plans will come in with a footing drain drawn as a
matter of course and, if the plans are by an architect or engineer, the inspector will require that it be installed. I
will take a copy of your e=mail to me and add it to the inspector file and the next inspector will determine
whether a footing drain is needed or not hap

I have been asked to write you regarding the requirement for a
foundation drain in front of the addition that is proposed for this
project. Inasmuch as there is an existing foundation drain, I
understand, back at the original wall which is 5 feet away I would say
that this additional drain is probably not necessary. Please call
