HAVE AN INTEREST IN LAND IN WASHINGTON COUNTY
OUTSIDE OF THE INCORPORATED CITIES:
Under the provisions of the County charter, the Board of Commissioners may adopt land use ordinances
each year between March 1st and October 31st.
A land use ordinance is a legislative act which generally affects County and Community plan designations
for large areas of land or class of land uses. It may change the policies, standards and procedures used to
•process land development applications for individuals' properties. _
These legislative acts may change the uses permitted on your land or on land adjacent to yours. They may
change the standards and procedures used for processing development applications such as partitions or
subdivisions, or for approving proposed development projects such as mobile home parks, apartment
complexes, shopping centers, industrial parks, garbage transfer stations, non -farm dwellings, etc.
Prior to the adoption of a land use ordinance, at least one public hearing must be conducted by the
Planning Commission and one by the Board of Commissioners.
The County Charter provides that all persons who pay a prescribed fee will be mailed a notice generally
describing each proposed land use ordinance and the date, time and place of the first public hearings.
Persons who pay this fee will also receive an additional notice if a substantive change in the ordinance is
proposed by the Board of Commissioners.
Persons wanting to receive a description of all proposed land use ordinances during 1989 must complete
the form below and mail to the address shown with a check for $5.00. (Note: If you paid a fee to be on the
1988 Notification List, you will automatically be placed on the 1989 list at no cost.)
Should you have any questions concerning the information in this notice, please call the Washington
County Planning Division at 640 - 3519.
NOTE: Payment of the notice fee does not include notice of developments occurring in your area.
Current regulations provide that landowners within 250 feet (500 feet in rural areas)
receive notice of most administrative and all quasi-judicial reviews of plan amendments
and development applications that affect individual properties. No fee or action is
required to continue to receive these notices.
