The protected tree is a Douglas -fir with a diameter of about 30 inches, and located on the adjacent property to the west. Orange construction fencing had been installed on lots 22 and 23 at a distance of 12 feet from the common property corner between lots 22 and 23, as I had previously recommended. This roughly corresponds with the tree dripline, but is slightly within the dripline in some locations. I noted that some construction debris remains within the fenced area. I discussed this on site with Dorian Watts, who planned to remove it immediately. Note that the following activities should be restricted within the protection area: • Moving or removing the protection fence without approval of an arborist • Excavation • Stockpiling of soil • Storage of equipment or supplies • Operation of mechanized equipment Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Walt 1 t . • Todd Prager From: Walt Knapp [walt.knapp @comcast.net] Sent: Friday, December 05, 2008 3:39 PM To: Todd Prager; waltknapp @comcast.net; Loraine Sellers Cc: dorian @timberlandhomes.net Subject: RE: Lot 23 of Gage Forest Todd, Dorian, and Loraine, Here's my follow up as per Todd's e-mail: • Tree Health: Current Condition. The tree appears to be in good health; there is no indication of defect or decline. Foliage is normal, and there is no recent dieback of twigs or branches, which would be an indicator of potential construction damage or root disease. Note that I was not able to examine the base of the tree due to its location. • Protection Fence Verification. After I'm notified by Dorian that the fence has been installed, I'll revisit the site to verify. I'll submit an inspection report following that. Please let me know if there are any other items needing my attention. Thank you, Walt Walter H. My assignment was to prescribe tree protection for tree no. 1784, a Douglas -fir with a diameter of approximately 30 inches. The tree is actually located on the property west of Gage Forest, immediately adjacent to lot 22. Recommendations: As discussed in the field with Dorian, I recommend installation of tree protection fencing at a distance of 12 feet from the west property corner pin between lots 22 and 23. This will provide adequate protection for the tree and still allow room for workers to install the house foundation on lot 23. The following activities should be restricted within the tree dripline (the area between the west property line and the foundation): • Excavation • Stockpiling of soil • Storage of equipment or supplies • Operation of mechanized equipment Please let me know if you have any questions regarding these recommendations, or if I can help you in any way. I approved the site plan for lot 7, but lot 23 needs revisions prior to my approval. Specifically, the approved tree protection plan for Gage Forest shows a significant amount of tree protection fencing on lot 23. As required by Condition 37 of the Gage Forest Subdivision... Prior to issuance of building permits, the applicant shall submit site plan drawings indicating the location of the trees that were preserved on the lot, location of tree protection fencing, and a signature of approval from the project arborist regarding the placement and construction techniques to be employed in building the house. All proposed protection fencing shall be installed and inspected prior to commencing construction, and shall remain in place through the duration of home building. After approval from the City Forester, the tree protection measures may be removed. 2 r Please revise the site plan for lot 23 (with tree protection dimensions shown to scale) and include a statement /signature from the project arborist that addresses the items above.
