listed in this section deals with the limitations and parameters of 101 this pre- engineered system. Those individuals responsible for the
design of the R -102 system must be trained and hold a current
ANSUL certificate in an R -102 training program.
The R -102 and the PIRANHA systems use compatible agents and
components, therefore, they may be used together for cooking
appliance, hood, and duct protection. The primary ANSUL

The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code
(OMSC) 2010 edition and The Oregon Fire Code 2010 edition.
Each automatic fire suppression system shall have both automatic and manual
actuation means. A manual activation device shall be located at or near a means of
egress from the cooking area, a minimum of 10 feet and a maximum of 20 feet from the
kitchen exhaust system. The manual activation device shall be located a minimum of 4
1 /2 feet and a maximum of 5 feet above the finished floor. 509.3 OMSC
• The actuation of the automatic fire suppression system shall automatically shut
down the fuel or electrical power supply to the cooking appliances. The fuel and
electrical power supply reset shall be manual. 509.4 OMSC
• A portable fire extinguisher shall be provided within a 30 foot travel distance of
the cooking equipment. A Class K rated extinguisher is required if the cooking
equipment involves vegetable or animal oils or fats. Section 904.11.5 OFC
• Wet - chemical systems shall be inspected and tested at 6 -month intervals.
Carbon Dioxide & Clean -agent systems shall be inspected and tested at 12-
month intervals. Sections 904.5, 904.8 & 904.10 OFC.
• A hood exhaust fan(s) shall continue to operate after the extinguishing system
has been activated unless fan shutdown is required by a listed component of the
ventilation system or by the design of the extinguishing system. 8.2.3.1
• All deep -fat fryers shall be installed with at least a 406 mm (16 in.) space
between the fryer and surface flames from adjacent cooking equipment. 12.1.2.4
• Where a steel or tempered glass baffle plate is installed at a minimum 203 mm (8
in.) in height between the fryer and surface flames of the adjacent appliance, the
requirement for a 406 mm (16 in.) space shall not apply. 12.1.2.5
• Where a building fire alarm system is installed, automatic fire - extinguishing
systems shall be monitored by the building fire alarm system in accordance with
