RE: Special Inspection - U ;
Minetto Residence
Portland, Oregon
NOTE:
This memo is to inform you of my observations during a site visit on Thursday,
March 18, 2004. When I arrived at the site the holes had already been drilled. I
inspected the holes for the required depth and for residue. The contractor installed
13 holdowns using 5/8" and 7/8" diameter threaded rods. The rods where installed
using the Hilti HIT 150 adhesive anchor system. The holdown anchors were
installed per the manufacturer's specifications.
In addition to the special inspection following items where addressed.
1. The shear wall at the back of the garage by the stair way did not show an
adequate connection to the floor diaphragm above to transfer the shear load.
We require a 2x12 to be nailed to the side of the double top plate using 16d at
4" o.c. staggered. Use A35 at 10" o.c. to connect the 2x12 to the bottom chord
of the TJI joist above.
2. The shear wall sheathing at the wall mentioned at item 1 may be framed around
the stairway stringer. Provide blocking at the edge of the plywood sheathing as
discussed on site.
3. The bearing load of a girder truss at the roof transfers down to a window
opening at the right wall of the garage. The window does not show an adequate
header to resist this load. Above the window header 6 layers of 2x plates are
used. These are adequate to resist the load and transfer the load to the studs and
columns at each end of the window opening.
If you have any questions please give me a call.
