(16.2.2) NFPA 72A Local Systems require 24 hours of standby plus 5 minutes of alarm operation at the end of the 24 -hour period. Two batteries must be installed in the D9112 system to meet the basic I standby requirements for an NFPA 72A installation. You must use battery ampere hour (A.H.) calculations to verify compliance with NFPA 72A. The following formula includes the calculation for 5 minutes of alarm operation at the end of the 24 hour period, as well as a 10% contingency factor which I allows for depletion of battery capacity with age. II alarmex 1 L•9112 -030 -190 1 .Power Supply ...: . Primary Power Terminals O ' Primary (AC) Power Circuit A 16.5 VAC, 40 VA internally fused transformer (Radionics model D1640) is the primary ' power source for the D9112. The AC power circuit provides 1.9 Amps of rectified AC power. The panel reserves 500 mA of this power for intemal operations leaving 1.4 Amps for powered devices. 1 Transient suppressors and spark gaps protect the circuit from power surges. This protection relies on the ground connection at terminal 10. Make sure you connect terminal 10 to a proper ground. See Connecting Earth Ground in the Installation section. r AC Power Failure The D9112 indicates an AC power failure when the power at terminals 1 and 2 is missing. The AC FP!! Time program item sets the number of seconds that AC must be missing before the panel acicnowledges the failure and the number of seconds after the power returns before the panel acknowledges the restore] of power. You can program AC Fell 77ate from 1 to 90 seconds. The Radionics default sets AC Fell Time at 5 seconds. Installing the Transformer Do not short the terminals of the transformer. Shorting the terminals opens the intemal fuse causing permanent failure. Connect the transformer to terminals 1 and 2 of the panel before plugging it into the power source. ' Use 18 AWG (minimum) wire to connect the transformer to the panel. Wire length should be kept as short as possible. Maximum length is 50 feet. 1 Connect the battery and then plug In the transformer. Radionics recommends that you always connect the battery first and then plug in the transformer. Instructions for Installing the Battery appear on the next page. 1 Only plug the transformer into an unswitched, 120 VAC, 60 Hz power outlet. Secure the transformer to the outlet with the screw provided. Never share the transformer with other equipment Foreign grounds on the AC input damage the D9112 power circuit. AC wiring can induce both noise and low level voltage into adjacent wiring. Route phone • and sensor loop wiring away from any AC conductors, including the transformer wire. Route data wiring away from AC and phone wiring. 08004 Transformer Enclosure required for fire systems: Use the D8004 Transformer Enclosure for the D1640 transformer in fire and combined fire/burglary applications. 09112 Operation & Installation Manual 7406144 -OOaA 4/93 Page 19 O 1993 Radoracs 1 L -91 12 -030 -200 ' Secondary Power Terminals O U ' Secondary (DC) Power A 12V, 7 Ah sealed lead -acid rechargeable battery ( Radionics D126) supplies secondary power for auxiliary and alarm outputs, and powers the system during interruptions in primary (AC) power. Lead Acid Batteries ONLY: The D9112 charging circuit is only calibrated for lead -acid batteries. Do not use gel -cell or nicad batteries. ,- Extra Batteries Increase Back -up Time: To increase battery back -up time, connect a 1 second 12V. 7 Ah battery in parallel to the first battery to form a 12V, 14 Ah battery. Use a D122 Dual Battery Hamess to ensure proper and safe connection. You can use the D8132 Battery Charger Module to connect two additional batteries for a total of four. See the D9112 Standby Battery and Current Rating Chart in this manual for battery standby time calculations. Installing the Battery 1 Place the battery upright in the base of the enclosure. Locate the red and black leads - supplied in the literature pack. Connect the black battery lead to terminal 4. and then to the negative ( -) side of the battery. Connect the red battery lead to terminal 5, and then to the positive ( +) side of the battery. Warring, High Current Arcs Possible: The positive (red) battery lead and Terminal 5 can create high current arcs if shorted to other terminals or the enclosure. Use caution when working with the positive lead and terminal 5. Always disconnect the positive (red) lead from the-battery before removing it from terminal 5. Replacement Radionics recommends battery replacement every 3 to 5 years under normal use. Exceeding the maximum output ratings, or installing the transformer in an outlet that is routinely switched off. causes heavy discharges. Routine heavy discharges can lead to premature battery failure. 08132 boosts battey backup: Adding a D8132 Battery Charger Module supports additional batteries of up to 36 Ah capacity if required. Warning: The transformers for the D9112 and any D8132 modules connected to it must be powered from the same 120 VAC circuit. The D9112 supervises AC power by monitoring the power from the transformer connected to terminals 1 and 2. It cannot supervise the AC power for D8132 modules if their transformers are not plugged into the same AC circuit as the transformer for the panel. Battery Supervision When the battery voltage drops to 13.3 VDC, the yellow Charging Status LED lights. When the battery drops to 12.1 VDC the red Low Battery LED Tights and the panel, 11 programmed for power supervision. transmits a BATTERY LOW report in the Modem II transmission format. It transmits a TROUBLE ZN 9 report in the BFSK format If the battery is missing or shorted, the red Low Battery LED flashes at the same rate as the green Operation Monitor LED. If the panel is programmed for power supervision, it transmits a BATTERY MISSING report in the Modem II transmission format, or TROUBLE ZN 9 report in the BFSK format. At 13.9 01 VDC the Charging Status LED goes out. Investigate low battery reports right away. If primary (AC) power is off and the discharge continues, the panel becomes inoperative when the battery voltage drops I below 102 VDC. Battery Charging Circuit Float Charge The float voltage for the battery charging circuit is 13.9 VDC at a maximum current of 1.4 Amps. Deduct any continuous Toad for devices connected to the panel from 1.4 Amps to I find the actual current available for charging. Load Shed Relay protects battery: During an AC power loss the battery supplies all power to the security system. If the battery voltage falls below 102 volts during an AC t power loss, a "load shed" relay isolates the battery from the panel and disables the panel. Load shed protects the battery from being damaged by deep discharge. When AC power restores, the load shed relay resets and battery voltage is again available. I Reset or power down required for shorted battery: If the D9112 determines the battery is shorted, it uses the load shed relay to disconnect the battery. You must reset or power down the panel after correcting the problem to reset the'load shed relay and reconnect the battery. I Reset the panel by momentarily placing the reset pin in the disable position. See Figure 3. The red Low Battery LED continues to flash until you reset the panel. A shorted battery condition is created either by a shorted cell inside the battery or by a short on terminals 4 and 5. A shorted battery may generate WATCHDOG RESET reports. The Control' Communicator must be equipped with firmware revision 2.95 or higher. Use Command 59 to determine the revision currently in use. . Before you install the D928 you should be familiar with the operation and installation manual and the program entry guide for the panel you are installing. . Description The Radionics D9112 and D7212 Control/Communicator panels use the D928 Dual Line Switcher to transmit over a second phone line when the primary phone line is faulte , The panel monitors the primary line and the D928 monitors the secondary line. If a signal is generated and the panel senses that the primary phone line is bad, then it will attempt to use the secondary phone line to send the message. For further explanation, see the Communication Failure section of the appropriate Operation and Installation manual. It trouble is detected, the panel keeps the faulty phone line in memory. If the primary line is found to be electrically faulty, the D928 switches to the secondary line and reports the fault. With the Modem II format, the panel sends a PHONE LINE FAI message to the D6500. The second line of the reportindicates which phone Ilne is in trouble When using BFSK, the panel sends a TROUBLE z1.1 B for trouble on the primary phone line and a TROUBLE zN C for trouble on the secondary phone line. The D928 uses the primary or secondary phone line to dial a primary, backup, or duplicat phone number. • Ground start systems: You cannot use the D928 on ground start systems for commercial fire applications. CPU Failure Annunciation • L. The 0928 module has a circuit that monitors the panel's CPU (Central Processing Unit) for L proper operation. If the CPU fails, a buzzer on the D928 sounds as does a sounder in 1h1 panel. You cannot reset this 'watchdog" sounder while the CPU is tailed. The D928 onl stops sounding when the panel's CPU returns to normal operation. Status LEDs Four LEDs mounted on the front edge of the 0928 module indicate primary phone lin ' failure, secondary phone line failure, failure to communicate, and AC power status (se Figure 1). When programmed and operating normally, only the green AC power status LE should be lit. D928 installation Manual 74.07040.000 -B 1194 Page 1 © 1994 Radioni Fax :612- 943 - 3809 Hug J,, i! ; . r . . Phone Line Failure LEDs Two yellow phone line status LEDs (one for the primary line, one for the secondary line) light up when phone line voltage drops below 4.5 -7.5 VDC without a corresponding 8 -13 mA increase in current. The panel monitors the faulty telephone line for the programmed interval belore indicating a trouble condition. For more information, see the description of Phone / $upv Time in the Program Entry Guide. I Failure to Communicate LED A yellow LED lights up when the panel goes into communications failure. The LED is cleared when communication restores. AC Power Status LED r The green AC power status LED lights up when the panel is running on AC power. When AC , power is not available, it is not lit. Installation Hardware /Software Compatibility Make sure that the control panel board hardware has part number 04- 05958 -004 printed in the lower right corner. The panel's operating software must be revision 2.95 or higher. . The D928 is not compatible with firmware revision 2.91 or lower or control panel board I hardware revision 04- 05958 -003 or lower. Mounting r The D928 Dual Phone Line Switcher mounts inside the D8103. D8108A and D8109 enclosures. Fasten the module to the inside of the enclosure with the screws provided. When using the D928 with a fire system, it must be mounted inside an enclosure that is UL listed for fire, such as the D8108A or 08109 Enclosure. Wiring 1. The D928 has two flying leads.
