Iul_y .8.2000 THOMAS C4MFRO. PE MEMORANDUM TO: Kimmo Akerblom, Ralston Architects FROM: Kevin M. Kaplan, PE tM- VLMK Consulting Engineers RE: Nike !HM (Tek 16) Kimmo: At the request of Bruce Joncas of Howard S. Wright Construction Company we have reviewed the proposed new enlarged opening in the existing Tetra Plastics building. Per discussions and our visit to the site on Tuesday June 27, 2000 the building was built in 1988 and that the existing 14'-0" wide x 10' -0" high opening in the existing 6" concrete tilt panel is proposed to be enlarged to be 14' -0" high. While existing drawings of the building were unable to be found, we do not see a problem with enlarging this opening as discussed. The new enlarged opening should be core drilled at the corners as the enclosed sketch indicates prior to drilling and care should be taken not to overcut the opening at the corners. Bruce Joncas indicated the need to frame the new enlarged opening in such a way that the building owner would be satisfied with the final condition. The attached sketch is one of several ways to frame and finish the new enlarged opening. It should be noted that using a TS 6 x 2 will decrease the opening width by 4 inches. Additionally, your office should provide the finish and/or painting specifications. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns or if you need any additional information. • ,-/ Cc: Bruce Joncas; Howard S. Wright Construction Co.
