The submitted plans are approved subject to the following. 1. The response to plan review question # 2 indicates that storage will be limited to 20 feet in height. The storage rack design, which is not approved at this time, indicates a shelf at 20 feet. A condition for approval of the fire sprinkler system is that there will be No storage permitted on the top shelf. Any storage on the top shelf will render the fire sprinkler system permit to be revoked and considered null and void. 2. A key box shall be installed within 20 feet of the riser room entrance. The bottom of the key box shall be not less than 8 feet nor more than 10 feet above the walking surface unless approved by the Fire Chief. 902.4.2 TVFR99 -01 Contact TVF &R for keybox at 503- 612 -7010 3. A supply of spare sprinklers. (never less than 6) shall be maintained on the premises so that any sprinklers that have operated or been damaged in any way can be promptly replaced. These sprinklers shall correspond to the types and temperature ratings of the sprinklers in the property. Standard 9 -1, section 2 -2.7.1 OSSC 4. A special sprinkler wrench shall be provided and kept in the cabinet along with the spare sprinklers to be used in the removal and installation of sprinklers. A minimum of 18 inches shall be maintained between top of storage and ceiling sprinkler deflectors. The distance shall be increased to 36 inches for large drop sprinlder heads. Standard 9 -1, section 4 -4.1.6 and 4 -4.3.2 OSSC 6. Clearances shall be provided,around all piping extending through walls, floors, platforms and foundations. Minimum clearance for pipe sizes 1 inch through 3 '/s inches shall be not less than 1 inch. Minimum clearance for pipes 4 inches and larger shall be 2 inches. Standard 9 -1, section 4- 5.4.3.4 7. Monitoring, Section 904.3.1 OSSC All valves controlling the water supply for automatic sprinkler systems and all water flow monitoring devices shall be electrically monitored where the number of sprinlders are; • Twenty or more in group I, Divisions 1.1 and 1.2 Occupancies. • One hundred or more in all other occupancies. 8. An approved audible sprinkler flow alarm shall be provided on the exterior of the building in an approved location. An approved audible sprinlder flow alam? to alert the occupants shall be provided in the interior of the building in a normally occupied location. 904.3.2 OSSC Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The existing upright sprinkler heads are laid out in a 9' -0" X 10' -0" pattern, (90sgft per head). Sprinkler pipe center lines, are at 23' -6" at lowest area of ceiling. Using NFPA 13: 2002 edition: Section 5 -6: Commodity Classification: (title of section) Per Table A.5.6.3: Carpet tiles, group A plastic. Section 12.3: Protection of Commodities Stored on Racks. Per Section 12.3.1.2.2: Protection criteria for Group A plastics shall be permitted for the protection of the same storage height and configuration of Class I, II, III, and IV commodities. (title of section) Per Section 12.3.2.1.1: Ceiling sprinkler water demand shall be determined in accordance with 12.3.2.1.2 for single- and double -row racks or 12.3.2.1.3 for multiple racks. Per Section 12.3.2.1.2: states to use table 12.3.2.1.2. Using table 12.3.2.1.2: (over 12ft up to and including 20 ft Class IV) non - encapsulated (see section 3.9.8), no in rack sprinkler, use figure 12.3.2.1.2(d). • Using figure 12.3.2.1.2(d): chart E (286 degree temp. 8 ft. aisles), density to use for calculations shall be, 0.495gpm over 2000 sq. ft. Per Section 12.3.1.3: Hose connections shall not be required for the protection of Class I, II, III, and IV commodities stored 12 ft. or less in height. (Racks over 12 ft. need a fire hose connection installed.) Section 8.16.5 Hose Connections: (title of section) Per Section 8.16.5.1: Small (1 1 /2) Hose Connections: Per Section 8.16.5.1.1: Where required by chapter 12, small (1 1/2) hose lines shall be available to reach all portions of the storage area. Per Section 8.16.5.1.2: The hose connections shall not be required to meet the requirements of Class II hose systems defined by NFPA 14. 2 Per Section 8.16.5.1.3: Hose connections shall be supplied from one of the following: (2) A separate piping system for small hose stations. (The current system was set up with a separate hose connection line.) Cascade Fire Protection Company, will be installing two (2) one and one -half (1'/2) hose valve connections. Piping for these hose connections, will connect to existing hose connection line, with 1'/2 inch pipe with a 1 inch pipe drop to hose connection. Per hydraulic sticker on riser, this system was calculated at a density of 0.495gpm over 2000sq.ft. The existing upright sprinkler heads are laid out in a 9'- 0"X10'-0" pattern, (90sgft per head).
