Please find attached a building permit application, Tri -County application checklist,
three sets of plans, calculations, and product submittals for the building fire alarm
system referenced above.
This work is for a new three story building.
Occupancy Group: B (occupant load <500 total, and >100 above the 1 s ` floor)
Fire Sprinklers: Yes
The following fire alarm system components will be installed:
• A manual fire alarm system is required for this Group -B occupancy per OSSC
(2007) 907.2.2. Manual fire alarm boxes will not be installed as this building is
equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system and the alarm notification
appliances will activate upon sprinkler water flow (907.2.2 exception).
• Install (1) manual alarm box (manual station) at the sprinkler riser (2002 NFPA -72
Section 6.8.5.1.2).
• Install (1) smoke detector at the fire alarm control panel (2002 NFPA -72 Section
4.4.5).
• Monitor all fire sprinkler flow and control valve supervisory switches (2007
OSSC 903.4)
• Install and monitor duct detectors at return air risers, (2007 OMSC 606.2.1) and
fire /smoke dampers (2007 OMSC 607.3.2.1 and 2007 OSSC 716.3.2.1). Connect
duct smoke detectors to the building fire alarm system (2007 OSSC 907.11).
• Install shutdown control of HVAC systems upon detection of smoke in the return
air stream (2007 OMSC 606.4).
• Install (1) 80 character English language remote display annunciator at the
entrance (2007 OSSC 907.8.1).
• Install elevator recall for fire fighter's service including smoke detectors and control
modules (2002 NFPA -72 6.15.3).

• Install elevator shutdown controls including heat detectors and control modules (2002
NFPA -72 6.15.4)
• Install magnetic door holders at elevator doors with smoke detector release per (2007
OSSC 715.4.7.3 and 2002 NFPA -72 6.15.6)
• Install ADA synchronized notification devices (audio and visual) through out the
building core in common use and general use areas (2007 OSSC 907.9).
• Install (1) outdoor horn/strobe to indicate sprinkler water flow (2007 OSSC
903.4.2).
• Off site monitoring of the fire alarm system will be provided by the owner (2007
OSSC 903.4.1).
• Pretest new devices prior to scheduling final acceptance test.
• Provide NFPA -72 record of completion documentation to AHJ.

The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code
(OSSC), 2007 edition the Oregon Fire Code 2007 edition and 2002 edition of NFPA 72.
The submitted plans are approved subject to the following.
Scope of Work: .
Replace old alarm panel, like for like, and check system. See scope of work and letter
attached to cut sheets.
General Requirements
A separate low- voltage electrical permit is required for installation and inspection of
alarm wiring.
A completed inspection and testing form is required at the time of final inspection
containing the information as outlined in NFPA section 10.6.2.3.
TESTING — NFPA 72 Chapter 10, OFC 901.2.1, 901.5, 903.5
1. Upon completion of the installation, a satisfactory test of the entire system shall be
made in the presence of the building inspector., All functions of the system or alteration •
shall be tested.
2. A record of completion in accordance with NFPD 72 verifying that the system has
been installed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications shall be
provided.
3. The permittee shall provide written certification to the Fire Chief that the system has
been installed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. A copy of the
completed form shall be maintained on the premises and made available to the Fire
Chief.
VISUAL ALARMS — NFPA 72 - 5.14.5, 7.5.4, OSSC chapter 9 & 11
1.. 4. When required; Visual alarms shall be located not less than 80 inches and not more
than 96 inches above floor level. When a low ceiling exists, the visual alarm shall be

mounted within the dimensions stated above and at least 6 inches below the ceiling. No
place in a room shall be more than 50 feet from a visual signal.

5. Manual Fire Alarm activation devices when installed shall be mounted in the following
reach ranges:
• Forward Reach -15 inches to 48 inches above the floor.
• Side Reach — 9 inches to 54 inches above the floor.
ALARM SIGNALS — OFC 903.4
6. Alarm, supervisory and trouble signals shall be distinctly different and shall be
automatically transmitted to an approved central station, remote supervising station or
proprietary supervising station as defined in NFPA 72 or, when approved by the fire
code official, shall sound an audible signal at a constantly attended location.
7. Duct smoke detectors shall be connected to the building's fire alarm control panel
when a fire alarm system_ is provided. Activation of a duct smoke detector shall initiate a
visible and audible supervisory signal at a constantly attended location. Duct smoke
detectors shall not be used as a substitute for required open -area detection.
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp,
shall be maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division
inspectors throughout all phases of construction. 106.3.1 OSSC
Premises Identification: Approved numbers or addresses shall be provided for all new
buildings in such a position as to be plainly visible and legible from the street or road
fronting the property.
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City
of Tigard in tracking and processing the documents.
