Beam and Loading Clarification

Dear Mr. Rickert:
This letter is the clarify and modify the previously submitted plans in reference to the
above listed site, and existing conditions as determined during construction and tear off
where the existing beam in question was visible.
Per our phone conversation, it was understood that the existing beam between the two car
garage and the single car garage is a 6 3 /4" x 21" glulam beam. Per this offices previous
assumptions and calculations, we assumed a 5 1/8" x 15" glulam beam. Per this pervious
assumption which is now determined to be incorrect, we specified a new post and footing
to support the mid -span of this existing beam. This is shown on the previously submitted
and approved plans on 2/S4, and the footing as shown in the garage on 1/S4.
After further calculations (attached), and your determination of the true size of the beam
as a 6 3 /4" x 21" glulam, this office has determined that the center post and footing is no
longer required to support the existing beam with the increased loading.
