Dear Mr. Funk:
We are submitting an application for a building permit to re -spray a portion of the roof beams and
metal deck with W.R. Grace Co. Retro Guard direct to steel fireproofing. Fireproofing to be
replaced where the original has been abated by AC & S Company, on the 4 floor plus on the
metal deck which was not previously fireproofed, in the same area.
The area involved is described on the floor plan as Cafeteria 406, Dishwash 407, Storage 415,
Serving 416, Office 417, Work Room 418, Typewriter 419, Passage 425, Storage 414, and Lobby
411. Portions of these areas have been protected originally with metal lath and plaster and were
\ not disturbed and will not be sprayed.
v We have based the thicknesses of the fireproofing on Building Type II, one hour, not sprinkled,
requires one -hour d metal k The roof
>" covering per your was tested direction. by This Schaber and Associates and protection the on test results roof beams show an the insulation dec. type to be
a mineral fiber board of 2 -1/2" Perlite and binders with 3/4" fiberglass and 3 ply built up roofing
\ and gravel. This meets the criteria for UL Design P 740.
Therefore, we have figured the following thicknesses.
Roof Deck 1-1/4"
Roof Beams 12 B16.5 = W 12 x 16 = 11/16"
12WF27 =W 12x26 =5/8"
12WF36 =W 12x35= 9/16"
16 B26 = W 16 x 26 = 5/8"
16WF40 =W 16x40 =9/16"
16 WF58 = W 16 x 57 = 7/16"
Tapered girders have a W/D ratio of .513, which requires a thickness of 11/16 ".
