Dear Jim:
As requested, we have designed the seismic anchorage and reviewed the strength of the stationary Rivetier wide -span shelving to
be installed on the concrete slab -on -grade of the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue building located in Tigard, Oregon. The seismic
forces were calculated in accordance with Section 13,3 of the ASCE 7 -05 as referenced by the 2006 International Building Code.
The design parameters included the following items: Sos = 0.71g, Ip =1.0, Site Class D and Seismic Design Category D.
Additional information provided by Spacesaver Specialists included the shelving system Toads, elevations, and layout. Please
note that a review of the building structure to support the shelving loads not within our scope of work but is available through our
office as an additional service if required.
The proposed shelving layout, outlined on SK1, attached, is structurally adequate provided the following requirements are
satisfied:
• The maximum media Toad to each level of shelving is 350 Ibs
• The shelving supports at the front and the back of the shelving shall be "Long Span SSC" beams typically. Exception: The
back supports directly fastened to the wall may be standard Double Riveted supports.
• The end posts shall be LURHD "Heavy -Duty Single Angle" typically. Exception: The end posts at the front of the eight -foot
long sections shall be LURDHD double angles as indicated on SK1. All interior common posts may be TUR ''Tee Uprights °.
• The shelving supports and the front -back tie supports shall be fastened with 0.25 dia. A502 -1 rivets at approximately 3° oc.
• The footplates shall be anchored to the concrete slab (minimum thickness = 4 ", minimum Pc = 2000 psi) with a 0.25° diameter
(2" embed) Hilti Kwik Con concrete screw typically. Footplates shall also be fastened to the posts with 0.25" diameter grade 2
bolts.
• The rear shelving supports shall be fastened to the walls with #12 screws at 12" oc. Fasten the 1st, 3rd and 5th level
supports typically. Walls shall be blocked with minimum 2x at these levels for the full length of the shelving.
Substantiating calculations are attached. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
