The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code (OMSC)
to 2004 edition. The submitted plans are approved subject to the following.
1. Equipment and appliances shall be installed as required by the terms of their approval, in
accordance with the conditions of the listing, the manufacturer's installation instructions
and this code. Manufacturer's installation instructions shall be available on the job site at
the time of inspection. OMSC 304.1
2. The building or structure shall not be weakened by the installation of mechanical systems.
Where floors, walls, ceilings or any other portion of the building or structure are required to be
altered or replaced in the process of installing or repairing any system, the building or structure
shall be left in a safe structural condition in accordance with the Building Code. The cutting,
notching and boring of framing members shall comply with OMSC 302 Sections 302.3.1
through 302.5.3.
3. Under floor spaces containing appliances requiring access shall be provided with an access opening
and unobstructed passageway large enough to remove the largest appliance. The passageway shall not
be less than 30 inches high and 22 inches wide, nor more than 20 feet in length measured along the
centerline of the passageway from the opening to the appliance. OMSC 306
4. A lighting fixture controlled by a switch located at the required passageway opening and a receptacle
outlet shall be provided at or near the appliance location in accordance with the Electrical Code.

5. Appliances installed in pits or excavations shall not come in direct contact with the surrounding soil.
The sides of the pit or excavation shall be held back a minimum of 12 inches from the appliance.

Where the depth exceeds 12 inches below adjoining grade, the walls of the pit or excavation shall
be lined with concrete or masonry. Such concrete or masonry shall extend a minimum of 4 inches
above adjoining grade and shall have sufficient lateral load - bearing capacity to resist collapse. The
appliance shall be protected from flooding in an approved manner. OMSC 303

6. Ducts shall be supported with approved hangers at intervals not exceeding 10 feet or by other
approved duct support systems designed in accordance with the Building Code. Flexible and
other factory -made ducts shall be supported in accordance with the manufacturer's installation
instructions. OMSC 603.10
7. Metallic Ducts shall be supported in accordance with Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning
Contractors National Association, Inc. (SMACNA) = Metal and Flexible. OMSC 603.4
8. Smoke detectors shall be installed in return air systems with a design capacity greater than 2000
cfm. Upon activation, the smoke detector shall shut down the air distribution system. Smoke
detectors shall be connected to a fire alarm system and shall activate an audible and visible alarm
at a constantly attended location. OR In occupancies not required to be equipped with a fire
alarm system, actuation of a smoke detector shall activate a visible and an audible signal in an
approved location. OMSC 606.
9. Every refrigerant system that shall be tested and proved tight after complete installation, and
• before operation. Tests shall include both the high- and low- pressure sides of each system at
not less than the lower of the design pressures or the setting of the pressure relief device(s).
The design pressures for testing shall be those listed on the condensing unit, compressor or
compressor unit name - plate, as required by ASHRAE 15. 1108.1 OMSC
10. Where vibration isolation of equipment and appliances is employed, an approved means
of supplemental restraint shall be used to accomplish the support and restraint. OMSC
301.10
11. Equipment and appliances regulated by this code requiring electrical connections shall have a
positive means of disconnect in accordance with the Electrical Code. OMSC 301.7
12. Appliances shall be accessible for inspection, service, repair or replacement without removal of .
permanent construction. OMSC 306.1
13. Condensate from cooling coils or evaporators shall be collected and discharged to an approved
plumbing fixture or disposal area. OMSC 307.1
Mercury Thermostats. The State of Oregon prohibits the installation of thermostats that contain
mercury in commercial and residential buildings. "In accordance with ORS 455.355, the disposal of
thermostats that contain mercury shall be in accordance with programs established by thermostat
manufacturers, their representative or distributor, or by delivery to sites that will ensure that the
mercury does not become part of the solid waste stream or wastewater."

Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be
maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors
throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
