RE: Alt Method to the 1 Hour Deck /Exterior Wall Construction Requirements
Mr. Vandomelen;
As per our phone discussion on this deck fire rating issue.
Please review and advise if this proposed sprinkler system would be an acceptable
designed alternate method to the code section 104.11 vs. the Chapter 7 1 hr rated type
construction code requirements for the deck area located at the Brightwaters @ Red
Hawk Apt's Permit # BUP2007- 00007.
Our proposal would be to install (2) sprinkler heads just under the exterior deck joist
system at each end of the patio. These would spray in 180 degrees and would each cover
approx 12 ' of side spray to completely cover the patio area. The heads would be frost
proof in design and the system would be fed off the 1 main line and have a 1" double
check valve and 1" ball valve for servicing. The access would be in the main laundry
room for technical servicing. Please see the diagram and proposal attached.
Please contact me if you have any questions and I will bring in the drawing and seek an
approval to move ahead with the installation.
We feel this provides more property protection, while allowing the exterior of the
complex to remain unchanged and continuous in design with the original.
