I assume the case on my address is closed, but if there is still a file somewhere, feel free to add this. The tittles have been begging to do a lemonade stand, but since the last one I have been careful to try to help them pick a nice weekend so they can stick to the four per year allowed. With the temps this weekend I decided this would be a great one. Mike was working in Texas all week and didn't get home until a few hours after this so it was just me and our 7 and 9 year old. A friend and her family(husband and three small children) stopped by while we were setting up to chat and look at the animals. They parked across Ann st. from our house and were here for maybe 30 minutes. As they got in their van to leave, the owner of the house they parked in front of(though on the public street) hit their van with his lawn mower and flipped them off. They got out of their van and he proceeded to yell, cuss, get in their faces and ultimately led me to call the police. During this commotion, Roger Pothoff decided to come over and film with his phone. He then decided it was a good time to bring up his chicken, rat, urban farming issues saying it was somehow all connected to the right to park on a public street. He even went home to get his new poster boards to show my friends and the officers as he continued his lecture. The attached photos are taken from a video I took. I engaged minimally, as did the officers, and my friends remained calm and discussed some of his points, but reminded him (Roger) this had nothing to do with why we had the police out there, to which he strongly disagreed. Eventually my friends left and Roger continued his lecture with one of the officers and after awhile I made sure the officers didn't need anything else from me and I left. They left shortly after that, but stopped to give my kids some police stickers. So we never did get our lemonade signs out, but we did still have some neighbors come by and get some which lessened the blow for the kids. While I am catching you up, I will note the conversation I had with Roger maybe a week ago. This is I believe the only conversation we have had since the council voting session. I was working in the upper corner of the yard, outside the animal fence where most people come to visit them. I was setting up some new fairy garden and dinosaur toys for the younger visitors to play with (they love arranging the figurines!) I left for a minute and when I came back Roger was standing there at the corner of the fence holding a dead rat by the tail. I am not sure where it was from as it was not in that corner moments before and I am not sure why he was standing there with it unless he was waiting for me to come back. I said "Hi" and continued what I was doing. He stood there for a minute and then said "Really? You don't have anything to say?" holding the rat out. I said "Good job." I told him we were continuing with all of our rodent prevention efforts and it appeared he was doing good work on the property behind us. He asked how the education piece was going and after I had him clarify(he apparently thinks because I asked for education over restriction that it is my responsibility to provide that education) I told him it was i going well, but I wasn't comfortable discussing details with him (because I am actually working on something.) He asked if throwing scoops of food to our chickens was "best practices" and I said "yes." I explained to him why we do it that way and that it is the best way to make sure there is no feed left on the ground to attract any rodents. He scoffed and started in on bird flu (which I am plenty familiar with the current status in the US and Oregon) and ultimately I told him I was willing to have a discussion if he would actually listen and not interrupt me every time I tried to explain something. I apologize if I shouldn't be sending you this when I am not filing a complaint and while there may not be an open case on our address, but I wanted to update you in the event you can still add it to a file because he is clearly planning on taking this further. I plan on writing to the Mayor and asking her if the yearly review on the chicken ordinance will be a scheduled thing or based on whether or not it is asked for specifically, but if you know that answer please let me know. Roger mentioned it so I know it is on his radar. I am trying to make sure to review council meetings, but I am admittedly not great at it. I hope all is well and as always, I appreciate your time!
