Redesign of SW 72 nd Avenue from Highway 99
to Highway 217
Project Goals
•Develop north section (Hwy 99W to Dartmouth Street) to 30% design
•Help the City pursue grant funding
•Coordinate with upcoming development frontage improvements and Red
Rock Creek Trail
•Develop south section (Dartmouth Street to Hwy 217) to 10% design
•Refine the ultimate cross section and roadway alignment

72nd Avenue Corridor Study (Planning Phase)
•Identified a new roadway design concept for SW 72nd Avenue to transform the busy arterial into
an attractive, multimodal street for all users and added the preferred cross sections into City
code.
•Public involvement in 2019:
o Stakeholder interviews (7 stakeholders)
o 2 open houses (~40 participants)
o 3 online surveys (~350 participants)
•What we heard from the community in the planning phase:
•Safe Walking and Biking –desire for safer options for walking, biking, transit
•Bicycle Treatments –preference for protected bike lanes (separated from vehicle traffic by
physical barriers) rather than buffered bike lanes (separated by pavement markings)
•On-Street Parking –support for additional on-street parking
