Everybody present wants to come: Maddie, Kim, Scarlett, Chloe, Chelsea, Kai, Ayla) • 5-7 pm or 4-6 pm is probably the time we’ll be meeting • What should we prepare for? Mental health event, but what else? • City Summit: Chelsea and Scarlett went last year. Speakers and activities will be there. Youth Summit with LOC City Day. It’s on January 28th on a Tuesday (during a school day), so a school day will be missed for this event. Free breakfast 7-9 am, general session with Salem mayor, league of Oregon city’s president, state leaders will be talking about state priorities for Oregon, lunch, and then youth activities from 1-3:30 pm. Youth council report-out and games, then a speaker. • Youth Summit with LOC City Day is an opportunity to hear directly from our representatives in Oregon • Depending on what works, we can attend any part of the Youth Summit (e.g. 7, 9, or 1, depending on what you want to do) • Might be able to carpool to the Youth Summit, checking with the city for permission. • Budget can’t pay for all of us to go, Alex wants us to email and ask our parents to solidify details • No meeting on the 20th–MLK Day. Library isn’t even open • Meet on the 3rd of February before we meet with Hillsboro YAC • 26th is the Civic Engagement Fair at the library. We want a table, some officers there at least. Are we advertising for TYAC? Promote If I Were Mayor (city contest), Alex will provide flyers. Maybe there’s supplies from past events. Do we still have the trifold poster? Do we have a banner? Maybe and maybe. • At least 2 volunteers for the Civic Engagement Fair. Volunteers: Kai, Shriya, Kim, Chelsea, Scarlett, Chloe • If I were mayor: younger kids make a poster, and different ages make essays or videos • MLK weekend of service activity: Tons of people are wanting to go. Most people just show up instead of signing up, so we don’t have a headcount. Our goal was 30 blankets. • Just Compassion—haven’t heard back after we requested to donate. Find somewhere else? • Donate to children's hospitals like doernbechers? Or the NICU. Maybe retirement homes. Houseless community takes precedence but if we don't hear back, then we can move on to other options. • Chloe email Family Promise!! • Blanchet house is also an option • Not really local, but NightStrike is a really good option! They have stations and foot washing for houseless people • Supplies–How is that going? • A lot of fabric was ordered and is probably enough. Variety is good though, so anyone can bring what they were originally planning on. We’ll be in the City Hall building to make blankets. Get there early to set up at 2pm. • Still sign up through the website! • The website to sign up is the same as the tigard.galaxydigital.com for volunteering • Don’t have to stay for the whole volunteering time, but please show up at 2 to help set up if you have signed up • Someone bring fabric scissors! A few people raised their hands • How to make the blankets: layer two pieces of fabric on top of each other, cut out the edge of the corners, and cut out 1-inch strips, then tie the fabric strands together • Food? Maybe popcorn or chips? Maybe we can play some music through a bluetooth speaker to set the vibes • Mental Health Event: Will be a joint event, probably some time after the D.C officer trip. Hillsboro does a lot of wellness targeted towards houseless youth, and wants to focus more on mental health. We can collaborate and work with them for this event. They talked about a youth voices event? We’re interested in that! Maybe bring in youth speakers. • Other brainstorming ideas before we go into a joint meeting? The Youthline is the program Lines for Line. Youth outreach coordinator reached out and they have lessons for groups of youth – maybe can be part of our event. 45-90 minute classroom session. Text or call hotline. Which class session stands out to us? The Coping With Stress classroom session. • People who struggle with mental health find it easier to talk to other youth rather than adults who might not understand. • These are good things to bring up at the joint meeting! • Is Tualatin invited to the joint meeting? They seem interested in mental health, so we can bring that up and possibly collab • Are Youthline mandated reporters? Yes. Only when someone is in danger of themselves or a danger for other people. • On the back of Tigard I.D cards they have youth lines • Invite Genevieve to give us an overview of Youthline on the 3rd • Youthline– 15-24 are the age cutoffs for the youth hotline. 18+ is the age to coach new volunteers. Commit for at least a year if you become a volunteer. • We’ll have to strategize about who can come to the LOC event for budgeting! Concluded: 6pm
