A. 9.2.1.3.3.3 The committee evaluation of flexible sprinkler hose fittings supported by suspended ceilings was based upon a comparison of the weight of a 6 ft, 1 in diameter sch 40 water -filled flexible hose fitting weighing approximately 9 lbs. The information provided to the committee showed that the maximum Load shed to the suspended ceiling by the flexible hose fitting was approximately 6 lbs and that a suspended ceiling meeting ASTM C -635, Standard Specification for the Manufactcne, Performance, and Testing of Metal Suspension of Acoustical Tile and Lay -In Parcel Celings, and installed in accordance with ASTM C -636, Standard Practice for Installation of Metal Ceiling Suspension Systems for Acoustical Tile and Lay -In Panels, can substantially support the load_ In addition, the supporting material showed that the flexible hose connection can be attached to the suspended ceilings because it allows the necessary deflections under seismic conditions. 3 AU6- 25- 2008(MON) 09: 11 P. 008/026 FlexHead® Flexible Sprinkler Connections Satisfy New Seismic Code Requirements Background of New - Code Requirements: i Typically, each unit consists of Pipe nipple More Chart 90 °A, of the a threaded pipe nipple for states in the U.S. are i connecting to the main or branch 0 feeder line, a flexible hose in /,.0.4744, W AINg mo adopting the +••v standard lengths, a reducing fitting ,,;,'';,.40 - Sprinkler International Building ±that the s "'i1"' brandillne p ii'i' sprinkler head attaches to, Code (IBC) I t'' ( ) that address, and a mounting bracket 1 Flexible connecting hose instm, dard among other things, the u4m longths — allmMStheheadtomovetn 1'i installation of fire i i i'i any d"Ce° ° "d+ngsudxmic n4+444 without causing damage to Use :sprinkler systems in ! . sprinkler systsm reismic zones.
