ESX-2 Specifications
Description The model ESX-2 is a Type I, single-island, exhaust canopy used for collection and removal of grease-
laden vapors and smoke over all types of restaurant equipment.
Application The hood shall provide flexibility in designing kitchen ventilation equipment and shall be tested and listed
for use over 400°F light/medium duty cooking surfaces; 600°F heavy duty cooking surfaces; and up to 700°F extra
heavy duty cooking surfaces.
Construction The hood shall be constructed of type 430 stainless steel with #3 or #4 polish where exposed. All seams
shall be welded or in conformance with UL 710 standards. Unexposed surfaces shall be constructed of aluminized
steel. Individual component construction shall be determined by manufacturer and ETL. Construction shall be
dependent on the structural application to minimize distortion and other defects. All seams, joints and penetrations of
the hood where grease-laden vapors and exhaust gases are present must be liquid-tight, continuous welds in
accordance with NFPA 96.
The hood shall be constructed to include:
• A double wall insulated front to eliminate condensation and increase rigidity. The insulation shall have a flexural
modulus of 475 EI, meet UL 181 requirements and be in accordance with NFPA 90A and 90B.
• An integral front baffle to direct grease laden vapors toward the exhaust filter bank.
• An integral grease drain system on the hood back with a minimum 1/8" per foot slope, to include an exposed,
removable 1/2 pint grease cup to facilitate cleaning.
• A built-in wiring chase for electrical controls on the front face of the hood designed to avoid penetration of the
capture area and eliminate the need for an external chaseway.
• UL incandescent light fixtures and globes, allowing up to a 100 watt standard light bulb, installed and pre-wired to a
junction box and installed with a maximum of 3'-6" spacing on center.
• Exhaust duct collar 4" high with 1"flange.
• A minimum of four connections for hanger rods. Connectors shall have 9/16" holes pre-punched in 1 1/2"x 1 1/2"
angle iron at the factory to allow for hanger rod connection by others.
• UL Classified aluminum baffle filters, with size and quantity determined by the hood's dimensional parameters, but
extending the full length of the hood with filler panels not to exceed 6".
- Certifications The hood shall be ETL Listed, comply with UL 710 Standards and shall be built in accordance with
- NFPA96. Hood shall be tested for compliance with the ETL Sanitation Mark.
-Documentation Manufacturer shall furnish complete computer generated submittal drawings including hood section
view(s), plan view(s), duct sizing, and CFM and static pressure requirements. Static pressure, air velocity and air
volume requirements indicated on drawings shall be precise and accurate and hood shall perform to said
specifications. Drawings shall be available to the engineer, architect and owner for their use in construction, operation
and maintenance.

Factory Built Double Wall Grease Duct Specification
Furnish double wall, factory built grease duct for use with Type I kitchen hoods, which conforms to the
requirements of NFPA-96. Products shall be ETL listed to UL-1978 and UL-2221 for venting air and grease vapors
from commercial cooking operation. Models DW-2R, 3R and 3Z are used for grease duct applications when
installed in accordance with these instructions and National Fire Protection Association "NFPA 96"; Standard for
Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations. Double wall grease ducts are
listed for a continuous internal temperature of 500 degrees F and intermittent temperatures of 2000 degrees F.
The duct sections shall be constructed of an inner duct wall and an outer wall with insulation in between. The inner
duct wall shall be constructed of .036 inch-thick, 430 type stainless steel and be available in diameters 5" through
36". The outer wall shall be constructed of stainless steel at a minimum of .024 inch-thickness. The duct, based on
model number, shall include layers of Super Wool 607 Plus, Insulfrax Elite Blanket insulation, or Unifrax S16 Bulk
Fiber insulation between the inner and outer wall. Grease duct joints shall be held together by means of formed V
clamps and sealed with 3M Fire Barrier 2000+. The duct wall assembly shall be tested and listed at 3/4", 1" or
zero-inch clearance, according to classifications.
Classifications and Clearances
UL 2221: Standard for Fire Resistive Grease Duct Enclosure Assemblies. Chapter 7 of this standard references a
test labeled Internal Fire Test. Section 7.1.1 references two installation conditions, Condition A and Condition B.
Condition A represents all installation condition except for installation within non-ventilated combustible
enclosures. Condition B represents installation within a non-ventilated combustible enclosure.
Model DW-3Z is classified under UL2221 (Test of Fire Resistive Duct Enclosure Assemblies) as an alternate to 2-Hr.
fire resistive shaft enclosures with a minimum zero clearance to combustibles (sizes 5"to 36" diameter). Model 3Z
is listed in accordance with the requirements for duct enclosure Condition A and B.
Model DW-3R is classified under UL2221 (Test of Fire Resistive Duct Enclosure Assemblies) as an alternate to 2-Hr.
fire resistive shaft enclosures with a reduced clearance to combustibles (sizes 5" to 24" diameter). Model 3R is
listed in accordance with the requirements for duct enclosure Condition B.
Model DW-2R is classified under UL2221 (Test of Fire Resistive Duct Enclosure Assemblies) as an alternate to 2-Hr.
fire resistive shaft enclosures with a reduced clearance to combustibles (sizes 5" to 18" diameter). Model 2R is
listed in accordance with the requirements for duct enclosure Condition B.

Through floor fire stop support assembly are used to support duct sections that penetrate a fire-resistant floor(s).
The full support ring is installed under the double V band; the struts are connected to the support ring with
supplied 5/16"-18 hardware. Once the struts have been connected, they are secured to the floor using appropriate
type and size fasteners supplied by others. When duct systems penetrate a fire resistance rated floor, ceiling and/
or a wall, a fire stop kit is used to retain the fire resistance rating on the floor and/or wall. The double wall grease
duct (2R, 3R and 3Z) and the fire stop assemblies detailed below have achieved 2-hour ratings for integrity,
insulation and stability. Testing was conducted in accordance with the applicable requirements UL 2221, Test of
Fire Resistive Grease Duct Enclosure Assemblies.
