Site Visit Requested By: Roman (DW Homes) Met With (on site): ' Roman (Cell Phone)
Purpose: Observe Lot 85 subgrade
Outstanding Issues:
Lot 85 Subgrade
I observed Strauss crews prepared subgrade for lot 85 (see site plan). The lot features several bench cuts for
footings for a daylight basement and/or embedded walls. I observed subgrade to consist of brown silt with varying
fractions of sand and gravel. Resistance to penetration by W'diameter steel foundation probe indicated generally
stiff to very stiff conditions. One of the benches observed appeared to consist of crushed rock and had been
compacted. Resistance to penetration indicates the crushed rock has been adequately compacted. In addition,
Roman informed me that they found an area that had soft subgrade and over excavated it approximately 8-9 inches
and replaced with crushed rock and subsequently compacted. Resistance to penetration indicates the crushed rock
has been adequately compacted.
While on-site I observed minor sloughing of the bench sidewalis. We do not know if the sloughed material is located
under building footings however we recommend removing any loose or sloughed material if located under footings.
In addition, the subgrade observed today consisted of bare and exposed soil. During wet weather we recommend
placing crushed rock over exposed subgrade as protection from wet weather and foot traffic.
Based on observations, probing, and conversations with contractor, it is our opinion that the subgrade observed
today, as indicated on the attached site plan, has been prepared in general accordance with our geotechnical
recommendations provided the aforementioned recommendations are followed.
