Report 15r2b cc-6-5 f5573 SW UiRvikv ave iJ car °I7zzN V 51 FIELD REPORT Page 1 of 2 Project: PacLife-2-03 Prepared By: Sam Freeman Project Name: River Terrace Crossing Date: 12/12/2023 Location: SW Woodhue Street and SW 150th Report#: ! 03 Avenue Tigard OR Arrival: 1 045 Departure: 1 1 10 Weather: Clear, 50's Permit#:Site Visit Requested By_ Spencer(Pacific Lifestyle Homes) Met With (on site): .Rocky(Parker Concrete) Purpose: Observe Lot 11 Subgrade Outstanding Issues: I observed crews prepared lot subgrade for lot 11 (see site plan). At the time of my site visit, the subgrade was covered in approximately 1-2" (uncompacted thickness) of what appeared to be 1 Y2"-O crushed rock or similar. Where exposed at the surface, and in the sidewalls/cuts of the excavation benches, I observed subgrade to consist of brown silt with varying sand and gravel (assumed native). I used a%2" diameter steel foundation probe to evaluate the consistency of the underlying subgrade where exposed, through the base rock, and in the sidewalls/cuts of the subgrade excavation benches. Resistance to penetration indicated generally medium stiff to stiff subgrade conditions. At the toe of many of the vertical cuts, where the building foundation steps down the slope, I observed a significant buildup of disturbed, saturated, sloughed material, both native silt and crushed rock. See attached photos for examples. These piles of sloughed material probe very soft and appeared to have been caused by rain runoff. Underlying the sloughed material (at approximate footing elevation)the subgrade appeared medium stiff. In our opinion the sloughed material is not suitable for foundation support, and I informed Spencer and Jody(Pacific Lifestyle Homes)that we recommend removal of any saturated, disturbed, and sloughed material from foundation areas prior to the house foundation being poured. While on site I met with Rocky(Parker Concrete)who informed me that part of Parker's preparation for the concrete pour will include hand removal of loose dirt and rock material from the footing areas prior to pour. We recommend that any void resulting from removal of sloughed material be backfilled with compacted crushed rock or CDF/structural concrete such as that used in the foundation pour. Based on observations, probing, and conversations with the contractor, it is our opinion that the subgrade for lot 11 has been prepared in general accordance with our geotechnical recommendations, provided the loose material as indicated above is removed from footing areas.
